That is the active cruise control radar module that checks the distance to the car in front - you don't see it much cause it is a total rip off in price and not real useful, so I don't think anyone ever opts for the option and the dealers don't order it typically.

yea i dont have acc but when i saw the pic i thought it LOOKED pretty neat
 for those that have it and people ask what its for they should say "it scans the car ahead for idiots"

Wow, I'm glad my car doesn't have that thing. That's the first time I've ever really seen one and it's HUGE! Couldn't they find a more stealthy way to mount that?

Ugly as sin in my book - lots of other manufacturers have an adaptive cruise control and the modules are not noticable like BMW's!

i'll prob get lynched for saying this but i really like the way mercedes hid their radar unit, in their logo on the nose...perfect. most ppl don't even know it's there...then again most ppl probably wouldn't notice the bmw unit either.

I have it and only used it a couple of times and it works okay. I tell everyone its my police jammer.

Mercedes got it right with the unit hidden behind the grille. They needed a special 3 point star hood ornament for the Active Cruise though.
