Mathematically, if you would like to achieve a higher pitched and "screaming" exhaust like the more exotic cars out there, you need to change the piping flow dynamic.
If you drop (reduce) the diameter of the 2 exhaust pipes, you are inherently changing the behavior of the pressure wave inside the exhaust piping. When you downsize the piping, you are creating a higher frequency pressure wave and this will increase the pitch of the exhaust note drastically. The larger you make the exhaust piping, the lower and more rumbly the tone. (This would be due to a lower frequency wave) The smaller the diameters, the higher the pitch. Now I know many would be concerned with exhaust flow. There is a solution. Keep the 2.5 inch pipes coming from the downpipes back, and toward the end, split each pipe into TWO 2" pipes on each side. This will give you a quad from the axle back to the rear bumper. There are plenty of muffler company's, including Magnaflow that have mufflers with dual 2 inch inlets and outlets. (Vibrant, Magnaflow, etc..) I Hope this helps a little.
