can we use a spray bottle between runs to cool down our IC's? any harm in this? |

I know someone that has the nitrous spray in front of the IC to dramaticaly cool down the IC.
He says that it works extremely well.

Or spray some alky Just make sure it doesn't get sucked in by your intake.

Between runs, you can out bags of ice around your intercooler to cool it down. There is no harm in doing it and i have see done many times.

Water spray really wont help. Use some sort of alcohol/water mix spray instead for much better results.

I'm going to disagree. For IC misting purposes, water is the best.
See my previous post for an explanation and my experiences using the mister system: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...92&postcount=6 For reference, latent heat of vaporization for alcohol is from 850 - 1100 kj/kg, depending on whether it's ethanol or methanol. Water is over 2600 kj/kg - meaning it absorbs twice as much heat. |

I had a friend who tried to burn a wart off that way... needless to say it left a huge scar.

i am serious about installing this system to help cool my IATs AND help me with my thin air at 8,000 feet altitude (cooler air means denser air correct??). your link said that spraying water was a pain to install and a pain to use: 1/ what kit did you purchase, and where did u get it?? can i just buy a window washer spray motor and fit misting jets around my IC?? 2/ i will have a pro install it, but why do u say it is a pain to use?? note that if you are at sea level and gained 10+ horses, i should gain alot more at my altitude which has thinner air (and also has 27% less oxygen). thanks

I made a kit myself using the Shurflo pump and some industrial nozzles. Had to fabricate a bracket for the pump, locate a place for the tank and locate all the sprayers.
Activating it is a whole 'nuther story too. It worked, but a pain in the ass. You can't have it run off boost, because you want it to "pre-mist" before boost kicks in. There are controllers, but they are silly expensive. |

for dragging, it would be on for less than a minute, for canyon running maybe 20 minutes max. btw, you say it "worked", are u still using it? and do you or did you run the water spray on your road courses? thanks

If you do the calcs to provide enough water for a 20 minute canyon run, that's a lot of water. Also, if you overcool the IC, you end up having water running out to your tires. Not what you want on a canyon run. |
