amp ordered for sws-8 finally...got a question though

so i decided to get my lazyass up and buy an amp for the sws-8's just chillin in my closet for past 4 months.

got myself a Alpine M450
  • mono subwoofer car amplifier
  • 220 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
  • variable low-pass filter (50-200 Hz, 24 dB/octave)
  • tuned Bass EQ (0-12 dB bass boost at 50 Hz)
  • subsonic filter (15 Hz, 24 dB/octave)
  • MOSFET power supply
  • CEA-2006 compliant
  • STAR Topology (minimizes internal noise and prevents ground interference)
  • speaker- and preamp-level inputs
  • gold-plated screw terminals
  • fuse rating: 20A x 2
  • 8-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
  • 9-3/4"W x 2-7/16"H x 9-9/16"D
  • warranty: 1 year

now, its my first time doing an audio install on a car
im pretty positive i made a compatible wiring plan, but if anyone sees any mistakes, let me know
  • 8 gauge power to amp wire (with 40a fuse holder closer to the battery)
  • Amp Input: wire from existing OEM connector (opening the connector up works), solder to 12-16 gauge wire, then connect to 4 pin molex (for speaker-level input), then connect to the 4 pin input on the amp
  • Amp Output: 12 gauge wire from Amp to speakers (run in parallel, 1 wire from + of the amp, to the driver's side subwoofer's +, then from driver's side subwoofer's + to passenger side's +. same goes for the negative)
  • Ground from Amp to chassis.
  • Remote wire is not needed since its going to be signal-sensing. (is this correct?)

also, i have a question, from the picture below, is the diagram A a correct parallel connection from amp to speakers, or the diagram B?

Can't help with your first questions, but on the picture, both would be a parallel connection. There is no need to solder to make one wire though. Pic A is just fine.

The M450 does not have any signal sensing capability... you will need to get a remote/switchable 12V line for turn on.

Hehe thanks Technic. But, do you think one of them is better for any reason?

I know they are logically equivalent; a parallel installation

I don't think that one option will be much better technically than the others; perhaps some differences in wire gauge size if we want to be really technical but outside that only the installation ease will decide which way to go (more wiring vs. less wiring).

got done with install today.

as for the enclosures, i clipped out the bottom tabs, put dynamat over the bottom and around the edges in order to get a good seal. then i used 3/8 by 3/8 foam tapes around the ring to get a perfect seal. for where the wire came out of originally, i just spray-foamed the entire block, then created a 1/2 hole on the side for the wires to come out of, then i just dynamatted around the hole so theres no leak.

as for wiring, i just cut the speaker-level subwoofer outs on the amp wiring, then connected accordingly, so i didnt have to run wires from the front to the back and so forth.

i used a 12v wire inside where the rear AC vents are as the remote signal.

the amp handles the subs too well, i think the subs might be overpowered, so i just had the gain 3 levels from 0db. it hits HARD still.

sideskirts and underbody panels are rattling like crazy, im gonna have to put foam or dynamat on them when i get my mtech painted.

Good work and glad to hear you are jamming out! Once the rattles are sorted out you will be all set!
