Question preparing to install ACS lip... one question...

Hi all - quick question... what tool is used to remove this bolt? This piece on both sides needs to be removed, and I am doing a test fit first before I go into the shed to start paint work.

Is this a T-handle torx? Anybody ever had to remove this? If so, what did you use?

I'll post DIY when I'm done... didn't see a DIY for an ACS lip there.

Thanks in advance.

It is neither a screw or a bolt. That mesh / screen is held on by the back of the bumper, you can push it out if you unscrew the bolts on the bottom of the bumper and pull it out a little bit while pushing on the screen

suweeeet... thank you very much. I figured out the "finisher rods" by researching the DIY logs, and that is very useful as well... but knowing that a simple screen push out is all that is needed... I am good to go.

Thank you!

Well... I have finished all of the paitwork for my ACS lip. Went to the garage tonight to "push in the screen" and it is definitely attached to the fog light assembly. That "screw" in the photo above is actually to adjust the angle for your fog lights. It's an allen wrench fitting.

So, now I am back where I first started. I have a perfectly good ACS lip, but these black screens need to be REMOVED near the fog lights.

Has anyone installed an ACS lip before, and what did you do with these black plastic screens?

Thanks again for any help. http://www.e90post.com/forums/images/smilies/sigh.gif

Can you get a close up picture of the bolt? That might help a bit.

I guess that is new for the 08's because my 07 has that but its just a hole, the fog light is attached to the bumper somewhere else and I have no aiming ability on my Fogs.

ok... so don't touch the bolt. hmmm... and the black screens are a PITA to remove. ok. Any tips? Suggestions? Lessons learned? I guess this is new for 2008's... great.

I removed the "finisher-rods" tonight. All I need to do now is push these in. I am afraid I'll damage the fog lights though. Here is another pic.

the are like 3 or 4 clips I cant remember well but start from the conner.

another option is cut the grill and remove it using a Dremel. I did that. a new grill cost $15 each. and you don't risk breaking the fog light or the pins on the bumper.

Talking

Thanks for the help. This morning, I was determined to solve this issue. And I've got info for those who have 08 328's who want to add an AC style lip.

In order to remove those black screens, the easy way to do this is to jack the vehicle up using a standard 2 or 3 ton floor jack. Take the wheel off, take the well liner off, remove the screws from the fog light assy, and remove HALF of the brake ventilation tube. Sounds like a lot, but the reality is that it took all of 10 minutes to do this.

From here, you see the entire black screen assy from the inside. Just press down on the clips and work it out. Really simple. No clips got broken, the black screen can be put back if you want later as well. It's all good.

Put everything back together, and install your ACS lip. Everything literally "snaps" into place and looks OEM.

Here is a photo of the finished product:
