MI Track Day October 12th (Waterford Hills)

So some friends and I are organizing a track day for October 12th 2008. I figured I would let some of the guys on boards know about it and see if anyone else would like to give it a shot. Personally for me its going to be my first time at a track so Im looking forward to it. Here is all the information. Let me know if your interested guys, we can turn it into a meet afterwards.

I'm very interested in this. I'll have to verify my car meets the requirements for roll-over protection stated by Waterford Hills. Let me know some more details. What are you guys planning on doing? Just a few runs? What kind of cars? All BMWs?

Thanks for posting and sounds like a great time.

Im pretty sure you will meet roll over protection standards. Ive never been there but Im pretty sure they wont care. Especially since its a hardtop you have. But we are going to make a whole day out of it. Im driving my e30 maybe and e36 if I pick it up by then. Efterlyst27 from the e46 boards is a good friend and he will be there in his e46M and I have a buddy who will be there in a neon and his dad in a camaro. Its the first track experience for all of us so we dont expect to be competitive. Afterwards we will all probably head to dinner or something

Thanks for the details. Sounds like a great time. I'm heading to the Woodward Dream Cruise get together that day so hope you can make it out to that too. But I'll plan on attending the track day.

Is there an official sign-up thread for this somewhere? I am definitely interested.

I checked the Waterford regs and they have this to say about convertibles:

Quote:
Convertibles must have a steel roll bar (factory installed fixed and active roll bars are permitted)
Open Cars Having Factory Installed Roll Over Protection: Any make of car delivered with factory
installed roll over protection which satisfies US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216 meets
the minimum standards for events (owner must provide proof that it meets this standard). The
windshield alone is not considered to be roll over protection. Open Cars Not Having Factory
Installed Roll Over Protection: If a car does not have factory installed roll over protection, a roll bar
must be installed, which meets the “broomstick” rule (the driver’s helmeted head is below a bar
placed on top of the roll bar and windshield).
Does anyone know if an E93 satisfies this? I would guess that it does, but was wondering if it was mentioned explicity anywhere.

I tried to verify this once and couldn't find anything in my manual, online or in the brochure. I'll send BMW an email.

Got nothing back except them telling me to contact my service center and oh btw, the dealership couldn't confirm it.

nothing from bmw
nothing from the dealer
nothing in the brochure
nothing online
nothing in the owner's manual...

I got nothing. Can't confirm if the BMW convertible meets the track requirement.

Oh well, thanks for trying Stinger. I might take the 335i instead then. Either car has limits way beyond my capabilities anyway.

Well, I talked the wife into letting me use her car, but when I tried to sign up this morning the form was taken down. I emailed the guy in charge and he said they are full. So it'll have to wait until next year for me. By then maybe we can find out if E93s are allowed.

Tell us how it goes Chris.

Did this ever happen? I missed the boat on this...didn't know until I saw this post today. Can we plan something while we are still in the Fall?

Pics, comments on the event?

Thanks all.

Damn... I just checked out the website...had no idea that there was something like this. It looks like the next one is May 12.

Let's get this going...make a big showing. I have had my 335i e92 since October 2006 (I have the "e92" MI plate) and would love to race around with other e90 posters...

Let's plan on May (or whenever is the next one)... I'll keep checking for dates.
