I want to install my old sound system on my e90. but the installer said the "BMW professional" stock head unit does not have a pre-amp input. is this true? is there a way around it?

i have xtant amp, focal separates, symmetry, solo barric subs.

just have to get a hi/lo converter.taps into your factory speakers and give you the RCA preout you need to install a aftermarket amp/system.. this link might help..

well no. if somethign fails in the car, the dealer has to prove it was your system that caused the issue to happen. warrenty is not automatically void because you put an amp or subs. plus if you dont mess with teh current wiring in the car and you do an amp and subs there should be no problem. In my experience i have never had an issue with this.

What u mean by not mess with current wiring? My plan was to get a 4 channel amp to drive a sub and new component speakers up front and let the OEM BMW amp drive the other speakers...first off, i dont even know if this is possible, i am going to check with my installer but, this will require tapping into the factory wiring

Easy. Just get converter which converts speaker level signals to low level signals. JL's cleansweep, RF's 360 degree, Audiocontrol's LC6 and Alpine to name a few.

Then connect the stock speaker signals to this converter. Thereafter, add any aftermarket amps and send them back to the speakers. Change the speakers as well.

One problem though, you have to decide if you really want to upgrade the rears. Reason is that the rear signals from the headunit is only a Hipass level signal, meaning all mid-low to low end frequencies are cut off. Adding amps and replacing speakers don't really make a lot of difference.
