BMW Sirius tuner or Sportster 5?

I ordered my new xi coupe without the BMW Sirius tuner and regret it. My question is should I install the BMW tuner and pay the $700 plus install or just put a sportster 5 in it?

Tischer just quoted me 410 bucks for the unit alone. I think it's another 100 bucks for the dealer to activate it. I can do the install myself. It's quite a ripoff if you ask me, but it lookes much cleaner to go OEM. The controls are so much easier through Idrive than having the Sportster.

How much are folks paying for the Sirius retrofit?

I too, was just quoted >1000 for the retrofit for Sirius. At first the guy wanted 1500 but after pressing, he changed the amount to 1000. In both cases however, he stated that the labor charge was at least 2.5 hours to install. I looked at the install manual and it seems like a little much. So the question is, how much are others paying to have Sirius added?

I have a Sirius Sportster in my car that I installed. The cost was $45. Here is the install:

I would rather have the BMW OEM unit though!!!! I bought my car off of the lot and it didn't have Sirius. OEM is the only way to go IMO.

I really love Sat radio. Way better than FM!!!!!

I don't have the OEM satelite radio, but I've been looking at the Sirius Sportster 5 and it looks very nice. I know I won't be able to access it directly through i-Drive, but I can use i-Drive to access it through the Aux connection. The Sportster 5 looks really nice though. I can get it for under $150, install it myself and still have a portable unit that I can use in my other vehicles and in my home if I want. I'm sorry I didn't get the OEM Sirius option with my car, but I didn't have much of a choice at the time. I don't think the benefit outweighs the cost in buying the OEM parts and paying for installation at the dealer - now that's it's aftermarket. I think the Sportster 5 is the best plug and play unit on the market right now and It's a much better option for me now.

I had both. I had the Sportster and hard wired it into my car. See this post:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111595

The cost was $50 or so and got me addicted to Satellite. It is the only way to go. I live in the downtown area so smash and grabs by crack heads is common. Not wanting someone to break into my car, I always disconnected the Sporster after use. This was very inconvenient.

Just last week, I bought the BMW Sirius reciever that intergrates with my BMW stereo. It was $1,000 and I love it. It was well worth the cost.

I don't have to disconnect the unit at night. The sound quality is significantly better. The steering wheel controls now work with the Satellite radio. The BMW sat radio menu is more intuitive and nicer to use. Also, the BMW installation includes a 1 year FREE satellite subscription which has a value of $200.

My advice is to get the BMW Sirius unit. You won't regret it.
