Neat computer for those that adjust their tunes

Thought this might be something people tuning their N54s might find useful.
I had previously been impressed with the little ASUS notebook computer that my friend uses in tuning his twin turbo GTO. Best buy has it on sale for around $329.

(ASUS EeePC)
It has a 900MHZ processor.
4GB hard drive (actually solid state).
512mb onboard memory.
No SD/Card readers.
No CD/DVD drive.
Windows XP (Linux system)
802.11b/g wireless connectivity
Approx. 3.00hr runtime
Weight: 2 lbs
1yr warranty.

I was almost ready to buy it when I thought I would check out Costco just in case. Glad I did, I bought the ACER notebook computer with much better features:

(ACER) Aspire one.
It has a 1.60GHZ processor (Intel Atom)
120GB hard drive
1GB DDR2 533MHZ SDRAM Memory
Intel Graphics 950 Media Accelerator
6-1 Digital Media Card Reader
No CD/DVD drive
Wireless 802.11b/g reader.
Windows XP
3hrs battery runtime
2yr Warranty
2.19 lbs.

ONLY $349.99. They just got these, so if you want one, better act fast!

I have my Vaio home computer with 22" Monitor, and HP laptop with a 14.1" screen, but this little 2 lb computer is so cool, for so cheap! The HP generates a lot of heat, and drains the battery pretty fast. So the 3hr run time on the new notebook is pretty impressive.

nice, i've been tihnking about this since the eee came out, but didn't want to deal with the tiny harddrive and stripping down windows to run on it. the acer is a great alternative, thanks for the info!

And the 2yr warranty from Costco is great. They also said if I signed up for the Costco Amex Card, the warranty would automatically be extended to 3 years! This kind of coverage on a laptop usually costs $$$. Plus if I don't like the thing, they actually encouraged me to return the thing within 3 months for a no questions asked cash refund.

This is pretty cool, I am at my parents house zipping away on this keyboard, no problem with full speed typing. Good for reports, etc.

FYI: This goes along with the other products I recommended for when working on our cars. The other being the Leatherman LED flashlight, LOL. (Which they are selling again at Costco). And the Snap On cordless Impact Wrench. ($500). I also suggested the Harbor Freight electric scissor jack, which works nice, only weighs like 8 lbs, comes in a nice carrying case, but I don't have the durability results yet.

I got myself Asus eeePC 901. It was better than Acer in the tests that I found.
If you drive hard, you need the flash-type of mass memory It doesn't break like old technology hard drive. Also it boots in just a few seconds. Battery lasts up to 8 hours. Its very light, I like it a lot. I prefer linux but xp is available too.

The Acer One use an advanced microarchitecture 45nm Intel Atom processor. It has about 47 million transistors in a tiny chip. The smallest chip, and lowest power consumption (1-2.5 watts) of any of the notebook computers out right now. If you are worried about storing info on the hard drive, store it directly to the SD card memory expansion slot. The 4GB memory on the ASUS was the big turn off for me, you can't even really run many of the JAVA applications, etc .

From the Intel website:

That new atom processor is exactly what ASUS EEE PC 901 has. Great performance and low power consumption which enables ASUS to last the full working day on its 6-cell battery.

No need to rush over to your local Costco or Sam's club to get these netbooks. Here are 20 netbooks between the prices of $300-$400 on newegg.

If you run it under XP I don't see why it wouldn't. I had one of these a few months ago but I couldn't deal with the screen for long intervals. Otherwise they're pretty nice for basic computer needs. The HP mini-note 2133 is a much nicer unit except it has the Via cpu instead of Atom.
