Dealership issue. lol.

So I brought my car in yesterday to get my directionals fixed. They didnt work, nor did my cruise, or wipers. I left the dual cones and diverter valves in because I couldnt get the damn DV's out of the charge pipe. Anyways, while I was at the dealership, I told the service guy I was getting long cranks, and that it might be the hpfp. I get a call back today. The directionals are working, they put a new switch in. BUT, they would not look into the fuel pump and the long crank issues because I had an aftermarket air intake system, and in his words, "2 blow off valves."
So, I laughed over the phone and asked if he thought the intake and dv's where the cause of the long cranks, and he said "well, because of warranty issues we cannot look into the long cranks any further since you have aftermarket parts on there. He said to bring it back with those removed and they would take care of it. I didnt buy the car from them, but they had an open schedual so I could get my directionals fixed, where as my dealership had a 3 week wait.

I wonder if there's a way to make sure the old pump in our cars are "fully dead"?

Here's the positive, at least they gave you the option to bring your car back with the OEM parts back on.
I don't see a problem with what they're doing.
They are willing to do the work on your car, but they are covering their butts by having OEM parts back on the car.

I say...put the parts back on and get your new fuel pump.

They are covering their butts in case a BMW field rep stops in. BMW does not want to pay for anything on modded cars.

The guy probably uses the same lingo with every customer because he can't decern those customers who know what they are doing, vs. those that think they know what they are doing.

Well i dont know if BMWNA has looked into ethanol content in the fuel being the problem with these pump failures and adapting a fix for this for US spec cars. But from all the reading about the HPFP problems owners have in the states and since I am stationed in Germany were there is no ethonal in the fuel here(at Esso or Exxon anyway). I'd say ethonal is the problem. I've been a bit out of touch with things like this since i have been stationed in Germany for almost 5 years, but who ever voted to have ethanol be mixed into gas should be shot. Worst idea ever, most cars today unless setup to run ethonal as an alternate fuel would run better and also be more enviro friendly if they just ran premium fuel 90 or 93 octane. The Germans made it law for 2009 that there will no longer be 87 octane regular fuel avaible, all stations in Germany, not sure about the rest of Europe will have 90 and 93 octane gas.

I wouldnt be surprised if they wont service a car because it had an aftermarket lip or spoiler on it, more or less aftermarket rims. Its getting really ridiculous now these days. Soon you won't be able to drive past 5000 rpm without voiding warranty in the future.

Be careful, you will kill more than just the pump. Your engine seals will be sol and the problem wont show up until after the warranty and you will pay an arm and leg, maybe your first born too.

i was told that the ruff idle and long cranks could be because f the K&N filter and the dealer could not look further into my problem until that was replaced. Yes, K&N drop in filter.
