question about autocross tracking your car.

I know this isn't the exact place for this but it gets more traffic of people who have tracked their car. Do you guys tape up the fronts of your car to avoid paint chips and such? What other precautions should I make before I take my car up there.

For autocross, you tape them up to avoid scuff marks from cones mostly... I don't tape the car anymore for autocross... I just avoid the cones

I think it's not a good idea to tape up the car in hot weather, since the tape can heat up and really stick to the paint and you risk damaging the paint when you peel them off.

true, but even if you hit the cones, its only scuff marks, they come out...plus it just more of an incentive not to hit the cones

one more thing for autox you dont have to worry about rock chips being that no one is really driving in front of you, but on the track is a different story

No tape necessary...just make sure to take everything out of the car before you go, take lots of sunscreen, drink lots of water and have lost of fun.

I have mudflaps on my car for autoX. Knocks the cones out of the way before it hits the side body panels. For the front bumper and/or slides into cones, there's nothing you can do... just happens. I wouldn't worry about it.

You're bound to hit some cones... If you don't, you're not driving hard enough.

Don't forget your knitting needles and yarn to pass the time between runs. A HPDE session may be more your style.

I dont mean to thread jack but... I feel it will get more traffic here than in the SE regional forum. Clemson is having an Autocross November 9th if anyone is interested... heres the link for more info... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181400

And just to keep this on track. I wouldn't use tape because its just as detrimental as the rocks you could potentially be kicking up or the cones you are wiping out (in my case). My father taped up his M coupe and not only was it a complete PIA to remove but it still got a few tiny rock dents believe it or not... guess thats what Road Atlanta can do to a front bumper lol.

I don't get many rock chips on my hood, but I get a lot of rubber bits from the track boogers.

You can tape to protect, but it will look incredibly silly when you're all taped up and a guy shows up with a supercar...without any tape. And if any tape falls off and lands on another guy's windshield, people are gonna be pissed.
