Angry E90 M-Sport suspension upgrade?

i've researched this and researched this and i couldnt find any posts on this topic anymore recent than late 2006 :mad:I've recently purchased a 2007 335i sedan, with sport package plus a few knick-knack dealer accessories. I love this car, there’s not a whole lot else I can say about it. I'm writing because a buddy of mine referred me to a shop near where I live in Germany. He said they carry the M-Sport suspension for my car and said the shop did pretty good work; it’s where he got his M-Sport aero kit for his 2006 330xi. So the other day, I drove down with a friend, who acted as a translator, and asked about it. Without hesitation the guy replied that it would be 650 euro for the parts or 750 euro installed with an alignment. I was skeptical because I had assumed that the M-Sport suspension package would be closer to $2,000 and 750 euro is actually closer to $900. I decided to go home and do some research before I forked out any cash and I’ve met nothing but dead ends. So far I’ve called four different stateside BMW dealerships and talked to their parts departments; not one person could give me a definitive answer regarding M-Sport suspension for my car. One dealership went so far as to tell me that if I can get it I should because the M-sport suspension package is not yet available stateside. They only offered Dinan and Koni setups for their customers asking for sportier suspension. From the other three dealerships, I was able to collect that none had a part number for a kit that was defined as “M-Sport”. They could only get me a part number for a “Retro fit kit, sport suspension (3350-0-429-574)”. I’m worried that this is the part number for the same sport suspension that my car came from the factory with. My research on internet forums yielded to a supposed part number for the M-Sport suspension kit (3350-0-412-929). Tomorrow I’m heading back to the German shop to verify part numbers and to see if they can clear this up. They already told me that the suspension package will give me a 3cm lower stance and includes springs struts hardware and sway-bar(s). I still worry that something will get lost in translation. I love my car and want only the best for it. From what I’ve found on the internet the M-Sport suspension package offers a mildly more aggressive setup, only 1mm thicker sway bar in the rear and slightly stiffer springs and tuned struts. With the most noticeable change likely being a 3cm drop, this is exactly what I want. PLEASE HELP!!

Sounds good, do you get to keep your ZSP parts, or is the exchange part of the deal?

You can check the parts in the M-sport kit on REALOEM.com, just hit the euro button (instead of usa 335 model)

a little update. the 650 euro was for a used kit from an 06 330i. got a price from another shop 880 euro brand new. i need to confirm if it actually does lower the car or not. anyone know? and yes i keep ZSP parts. i'm thinking not a bad deal if i sell ZSP parts.

The spring on the e90 330i are a little softer than 335i e90. The fact is that the sport suspension springs are stiffer than then M-sport springs. The M-sport ride height is the same as the sport suspension. The only difference is the M-sport bump stops which are longer and more progressive than the sport ones so there is a bit more stiffness at the end of the stroke.

You be better off with Koni FSD and H&R sway bars than the M-sport hardware.

Try and get to drive a car with Koni FSD.

I have FSD with Eibach Pro springs and in a nutshell I am not impressed. They are softer than the m sport set up at slow speed and around the same at medium to high speed. Turn in is a little better but this may be down to the Eibach and not the FSD.

My advice is to try this setup before you buy I bought off the strength of the reviews on this forum, it is only now that I am realise that people are comparing FSD to standard not m sport.

Koni UK have confirmed that my findings are correct and are now taking them back off me.

thats pretty good they take them back after comparing the drop to the standard set-up. That's exactly what the OP wants to know. Me too. If there is little or no difference I'll go with the coils and sways aftermarket.
Tanker
shot me a PM and lets colaborate on where to get stuff here in Germany. I'm in Hessen.

Thanks for responding guys. The more I think about it I think I'm going to get the M-Sport while its available and install back in the states. If I dont like after a couple hundered miles I can always swap back out for ZSP parts and sell the M-Sport. I think it would be worth it even if i lose a little on the resell just because there is so little talk about this modification. All ive seen so far is people who go all the way with the M-Sport package and never know their car any other way. Other people go straight to aftermarket.

Make sure you use the BMW ETK system at the dealer to get the correct spring as the OEM version. The spring rates vary depending what options you have so you need to tell them so they can sleect the right srpring. There five to seven differant spring rates front and rear.

A little update. Two years later I was organizing paperwork and found an invoice from when I originally ordered my car and it said I have M-Sport Suspension! Me so HAPPY!
