Where can I get my tires inflated with nitrogen?
Where can I get my tires inflated with nitrogen in New York area(preferably in Long Island or Queens)? I heard that Porsche dealers does it for $60 but I am not sure if it's for each tire or all four. Any info appreciated..

I received "free" nitrogen in my tires when I purchased a set of 4 Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs for my '02 911 at the Porsche dealership. I think Costco uses nitrogen

When I had my snow tires put on at Flemington BMW, I jokingly said to the service guy "make sure they get filled with nitrogen" he knew I was kidding because we've talked about it before. For me, it's the biggest rip off paying $40+ to fill my tires (I check the pressure every week and don't take my cars to the drag strip). When I opened my door there was a little green tag stating that my tires were "filled with nitrogen". At least it was covered in the mounting and balancing.

the air you breathe is 80% nitrogen.
there's no way to fill a tire with 100% nitrogen, unless you pump out the tire to a 100% vacuum then fill it. if its free, go for it, dont bother paying for it. just make sure you get the dryest air you can to fill the tire, the hose at a gas station is pretty bad in terms of moisture. they dont empty out their air dryers on their air compressors, and you end up with significant moisture getting pumped in. i've seen some that actually spit water out. moisture contributes more to air expansion than the oxygen and other gases in air. a portable air compressor on a dry day would be best. nitrogen and air (minus the moisture) expand and contract in terms of volume at the same rates. PV=nRT

Let me get this straight............. In addition to helium / nitrogen You can fill tires with Hydrogen ? So if you hit a pothole - do you level the whole block ? Last edited by SD203; 11-29-2008 at 08:40 PM.. |
