v3 PNP Procede install - Steering Wheel Lock alarm

Gas octane used: 93
Check Engine Light Codes: Steering wheel lock
Parts installed on car: v3 pnp and BMS air filter

Help please!
My Procede was off the car for about a year with 1.47 installed on the procede. Just received the PNP. Install went ok. Car started up fine with no codes without procede installed - just harness. At first I received a limp mode after procede was installed. I left the car overnight in garage and read and found out I needed to install new firmware first with engine off and everything else on. I installed the latest pro01v03beta42. I then installed stage 1 non-doomsday map (car made 10/06). No issues with map loading, etc.
I removed serial connection and tried to start the car. I received the Steering Wheel Lock alarm. I had not even rotated or done anything with the steering wheel. I read that it could be a drained battery. It didnt appear to be drained but I hooked up battery cables to jump start. The same alarm was up. It said to rotate steering wheel to unlock. No go. Is this an install issue or something else. Seems improbable to have another issue exactly the same time as my install.

I had a similar problem problem on a 520 after remowing the + cable.
There is a procedure in the manual which solved te problem in my case.

I think the safest thing to do right now is just connect the bypass plugs and wait for a reply from Shiv. And/or just disconnect the battery...

Have you ever seen the steering wheel lock light before this? The reason I ask is that this is a known problem with the 335i (and unfortunately only solved via a BMW s/w update), and it shouldn't have anything to do with PROcede v3 install; it's probably just a coincidence that you got this error after installing v3. I have seen this steering wheel lock light error numerous times (and it's scary b/c the engine won't start ), but after each time, I just took my foot off the brake, then put my foot back on the brake and tried to restart a few times...after 2-4 times, the engine starts and the error light goes away.

Thanks - so I went ahead and tried jumping the car again since the Low battery charge light indication was up with the Steering Wheel Lock. It started right away. I drove it around - no codes. Very impressed. A much more full bodied wine than the 1.47 I had installed a year ago.

Now I still have the issue of how the battery drained in one night in the garage. Again - I know I got the right orange wire on the green connector.

Since the Procede works amazingly and no codes I am at a loss for the cause. I had the hood open all night but there is no hoodlight. Thoughts?
Thanks for all the feedback.

Any chance you left the ignition on? I've done this before, because I leave the ignition on when loading maps and stuff, and then I have comfort access, so it just stays on when I leave with the key in my pocket...

Definitely possible I left ignition on. I had a lot going on. Car has run amazingly. Battery is recharged. I'll check it in the AM. If its ok I'll button her back up.

BTW - since I see a few of the beta testers have responded (much appreciated), I have increased the torque settings a bit. I run 93 oct with BMS filters. I increased several from 80 to 85. There were a few settings at the low rpms that were right around 70. I increased them to 75. Is it not advisable to increase these to 85. Seemed like too big of a jump.

You're running the non-beta v3.0 maps, right?

Shiv

p.s. As sflgator said, that steering wheel lock warning is a known problem with these cars. If it doesn't go away when your battery fully recharges, you'll just need to take it to the dealership and have them reset it. Only takes them a few minutes to do. Just be happy you didn't have a steering wheel lock failure. This is when the steering wheel doesn't unlock when you put your key in. This is also a known problem with the newer BMWs. I've had this happen to me last year. The car won't start. The steering wheel wont turn. And you need to tow your car to your dealership so they can replace your entire steering wheel lock mechanism. They can do it within a day but it's still a major PITA.

dude...I think your running the wrong software because you can only set the torque setting once, its not like before where you can set it to different rpms...What are you saying you set some of them to 80-85....the new software its either 85% and thats it???? Make sure you load the correct 3.1 Procede Reader!

I am running the pro0v03.1beta42 firmware and the stage1 non-doomsdat 11-14.pcd. These were the latest ones I saw posted wth lagfix, etc.. ok - i have the Procede reader 2.0. This is what is on Shiv's website. I now see the is not the latest. It seemed to work fine in allowing me to change settings.
I didnt try to enter anything higher than 85.
thx

If you are using the beta v3.1 maps (which it looks like you are), have to use the new v3.1 user software. It has the user adjustables screen. If you are using the old software with the old-school RPM depedant User Torque window, the v3.1 map data doesn't translate right. That is why you saw all this wierd numerical data in your User Torque screen. This is because what you think you are adjusting isn't actually what you think you are adjusting.

So go back and reload the original v3.1 11-14 map (before your "user torque" changes) with the new v3.1 user sofware. Then you can go ahead and make the desired user torque changes.

damn - low battery charge alarm up again this morning. steering wheel lock alarm not up. Car started but barely. I looking for the multimeter to check that procede is not getting power after car is turned off. Any other thoughts? All other known power sources were checked to be off.

Ok - checked the power at the green connector and verified no power when car is fully off. Apparently it has nothing to do with the procede / install. Getting battery checked is next. thx

I got the procede reader 3.1 set up and changed user torgue settings to 88 - running 93 oct. Too bad for me it is raining out. Damn Philly weather sucks. South Fla or LA has got to be the place to be.
