Auto-X wheels and tire recommendations...
Just beginning to do some research on wheel/tire combos for auto-x, hoping to get some recommendations from folks who've already been down this path
I've got an '06 330i ZSP, and was looking to get something to swap out for weekends. I don't really feel like killing my run flats and end up paying out for a brand new set of 4 within a year ... that would get expensive quick! So with that being said, can anyone recommend any good wheel/tire combos. Don't want to spend to much money... would be ideal if I could keep it within $1,000 or so. Hell, I'm probably gonna have to run Azenis on 16" steelies or something |

Sam, saw on CL...guy wants $750 for a set of 18" M3 wheels and tires (some tread left). Might work for a starter set, then you can always get new tires...

For tracking the car, I would not get anything over 17" for the e90. I would really look into 16" but I'm not sure they would clear the brakes.

Right, thanks guys. Doing a little research, and folks all tend to agree 17's are the perfect size -- clears brakes, and there are several tires you can buy in that size range.
I might just give tirerack a ring and see what they have to say |

I'd say you should burn through your stockers, and not go with a second set of wheels
if you're just learning high performance driving, going to super sticky rubber is not the way to learn how to drive better. |

BTW, I'm not getting R compounds. Believe that would move me out of the stock class, which is what I want to stay in for the time being. |

you might need some spacers to have that setup work, but im not sure...
I would advise against spacers on a autocross setup... I forget the thread, but one member had a wheel pop off mostly due to spacers while on the course You can get a cheap 17 inch setup from tirerack with tires for just over 1k... why not try those??? |

OK, I got tired of debating new/used and just ended up going to Edge Racing and buying a package there
I ended up getting the "17 Flik Lex wrapped in Falken Azenis Rt615. Seems like a decent enough combo, and the package was fairly cheap. Since I plan on only using these at auto-x events, I'm not to worried about treadwear. Now the wait begins! |
