Window and light washers

I remember a while ago, the washers for the lights would come on not as often as when i cleaned the windscreen, Recently its happening every single time i use the washers

SO clean car goes all stripey within minutes.

Is this a problem with my car?

The headlamp washer should wash every five times you activate the screenwash if the headlamps are on. This counter is reset if you switch the engine off - ergo everythime I activate the washers when I start the car up the headlamps get washed.

If you activate the washers and the headlamps get washed and then try again without switching off the engine - if the headlamp washers activate again you have a problem.

Nothing wipes the lights - the wash is (supposedly) high pressure to 'blast' dirt off. In reality I don't think they're very effective but have to be fitted with xenons.

Really? Can you show a photo of what you mean, Calos?

At the moment mine has a low-mileage and was purchased in the spring so the lights have not been on for long. However the heat output with gas discharge is much lower than halogen so I'm surprised. A phot would be good if you can take one.

Officially, they are switched on during the first wash after pressing the start/stop button AND lights are switched on.

They are then off for 7 minutes UNLESS you operate the windscreen washer 5 times within those 7 minutes.

Thanks for that more accurate explanation, Viv. I must admit, I was quoting from the e46 days. Anyway, that does not look like burning - is it definately on the inside?

It is dust, as the lamp heats up, the air inside the headlamp unit expands. when the lamp is off the air cools and draws air in from outside and you get the pollution from the air deposited on the inside of the plastic.

Also if you press and hold the windscreen wash for a longer period the head light washers activiate, can't remember how long you need to do it for though... A few seconds or so.
