ericosaur detailed: 08' SparkingG 335i Coupe

I just want to say thanks to ScheerSpeed and George at detailedimage for the support and knowledge when answering all my little questions about detailing. They really got me hooked into this, and I went and soaked everything up like a sponge!

I originally started looking at the Zaino product line. I thought, hey I heard good things about zaino, and I’m sure ill use it, and I did. But I wasn’t sure what kind of finish I was looking for. I realized that my personal tastes wanted more of a warm, deep shine, kind of like if the car was still wet looking appeal. And I didn’t really get that with Zaino. I used the zaino all in one, z6 and z8. I noticed their qualities right off the bat, and if my end result definition were to include, high gloss, mirror-like reflections, and bright crispy shine, then Bam, I would have been content. So the real quest began.

Keep in mind my car didn’t really need a full detail at all. I just really wanted to detail my car! I wanted to do everything.

It took a span of 5 days, and 28 hours of work total. I took my time, and tried to get everything right. Nobody told me what a awesome workout detailing is! And how time flies like no other.

Previous experience :

As a birthday present for my dad, I did a full detail for my father’s 7 series, which I felt very proud of, using menzerna SIP with orange pad and finished it with 106ff- white pad. LSP zaino Z6. I took out 80% of all the inperfections, but it wasn’t perfect.

Products:

Wheels:
P21s gel wheel cleaner
Poor boy’s wheel sealant
Zaino AIO
Poor boy’s bold n bright

Exterior:
Foammaster II foam gun
Sheep skin wash mitt
2 bucket w/ grit guards
citrus wash and clear
P21s TAW
Clear Kote clay bar
303 aerospace protectant

Interior:

Zaino z9 leather cleaner
Zaino Z10 leather in a bottle
303 aerospace protectant

Polish:

Flex XC3401
Menzerna SIP PO83- Orange pad/purple wool
Menzerna PO106ff- White pad
Menzerna PO85rd- Black pad
ISA 50/50

LSP:

DoDo Juice- White Diamond (hard)
DoDo Juice- Light Fantastic (soft)

Before the fun began-prepped

Pictures during the process

All done

I hope you enjoyed looking and reading as much as I've enjoyed doing and reporting! It's fun, and looking back, it was all worth it.

Note to self: learn how to do paint correction next: (already bought 2 fine paint brushes, touch up, and a fine grade sanding block. need some input on damage report, and if i can do this myself!

oh geez i didn't read the time thing in the first part. my bad!

yeah detailing is quite painful on the body...

first time i detailed my tC - hurt every muscle to move for the next two days!
then the E90 - hurt even more
then an MR2 - lemme just say low cars FTL on the lower back

now though, i don't feel much after these. you'll get used to it my friend!

Eric, thanks for sharing your detail with us. You can tell you did your research and really put some hard work into your detail! Your pictures look stunning, the reflections very sharp and deep and the paint looks dripping wet from a distance.

From your last shot regarding the spot to touch up, you can really see the metallic flake popping up close. What did you think of the Dodo Juice waxes? Were you pleased with the outcome of the two? From your pictures, I'm not sure how much more you could ask for, but wanted to get your feedback on them since I know it was tough to pick out which ones to send originally.

Keep up the professional quality work!

Cheers,

George

Thanks George.

Well my impressions with using the white diamond hard wax followed by the light fantastic soft wax is that they did exactly what you said they would do, and that is to bring out those metallic flakes.

I think the hardwax really made it pop. Then after 12 hours, when i applied the soft wax the paint seemed to mellow out into a softer tone + the additional pop the hard wax gave.

I realized first hand that although wax ties everything in together as a LSP, but the majority of the clarity and wowness came from the finishing polish before adding the wax.

Overall I am thoroughly pleased with the results from the two waxes.

Edit: This weekend I applied the Supernatural from DoDo juice, and my goodness does this thing glow. I think it looked even better after it sat over night.

Tell me about it! I recently corrected the paint for my friend's 335i after another car scuffed up his passenger quarter panel in a parking garage, and i found myself super comfortable and efficient with the orbital now. all it takes is practice to get that muscle memory set, like pressure and speed, then the control is there!

Eric,

You are 100% correct in the above statement I bolded. Correcting the imperfections from the paint is what really makes or break a detail, topping with a quality sealant or wax adds that extra 5 - 10% of the additional look. I find that you begin to appreciate some of the higher end waxes after you've taken the time to learn to properly correct the paint.

Any chance you snapped a pic of Supernatural on the paint? I bet it looks outstanding.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks great Eric.

What impact wrench did you use to remove the wheels?

George

The super natural is outstanding. My most recent layer is with the Purple Haze, which so far I love the most! I'll snap a few hopefully this weekend. It just makes it look darker (which i like) and its so wet looking!

Oh,

Here are pics I took with the super natural on.
