Dealer puts minor scratches in car
Go to pick the car up from the dealer after it's first service and there are two 1/4' long scratches in the passenger door  . Looks like it went through the clear coat. Fortunately the dealer inspected the car before it got serviced. This happen to anyone else? Can the scratches be fixed without repainting the door?

It depends on the scratch. Can you feel it with your fingernail? If it catches your fingernail, most often repainting is necessary. A good thing to try before the bodyshop is 3M Imperial Microfinishing kit w/ a foam wheel. If that doesnt get it out...then paint.

That SUCKS!! Anyways, try the microfinishing compound with the foam wheel. If you're not that handy or don't have a wheel, all body shops do have this stuff. You should make them give it a try first. God knows, the guy at the shop is certainly going to say you need paint before trying anything!!!$$$$
And just by chance if you do have a wheel, get the stuff and do the whole car...It will look like glass when you're done. |

I would let them try to fix it and if you are not happy make them repaint the entire door! Don't let them paint it faded in!
