you dont need dedicated winter tires over here in tri-state area. You just need to drive real slow with all seasons. also deflate your tires a little bit so you get bit more traction. I will report after I try my new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus

Summer performance tires aren't effective below 45 degrees. The compound becomes very hard and traction becomes problematic, even on dry pavement. It's simply not worth the risk to you, others and to your car. There are several great winter tire choices available. I'm using Dunlop M3 Wintersport M3 DSST (runflat) which are outstanding in the snow.

Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3Ds offer a great mix of snow/ice performance and dry performance.

well if its upstate NY or where ever else that snows a lot then dedicated snows are required but its just too much to buy snows here unless you depend on it to go to work everyday. usually if i need to go drive to work, ill just rent a car.

nah...screw those. i joined after they said they will waive the annual fee....then after i got the card, they decided to change their mind! i just rent from hertz or enterprise. They pick me up too so it's easy for me to rent. It's paid by the company anyways.

I live in the Denver-Boulder area and still have summer tires on my E90 335i. I would not dare drive it when its snowing, just been snowing, is about to snow, or temp is < 40-45F. If I didn't have the luxury of working from home but instead had to commute to work, I would have installed winter tires, or minimally all-season, tires.

Nooooooo
Tried this last year, got stuck and had to walk 2 miles to my house in the snow. If you are going downhill you can do so at maybe like 4 mph but if you hit any kind of slope and want to stop, good luck. Get winter tires or buy a different car for snow. |
