I still think you need to find a way to get out of the car. But you are leasing so your options are limited.
You will have to weigh the cost/benefit of continued driving versus having an independent mechanic fix it. Another consideration is what BMW might say when you turn it back in at lease-end. |

Yea, they will inspect the car and if it is a lease. They would want everything back and in ship shape.

have you considered turning in the lease early? Or trading up for a different car, I have traded in my leases early, but you usually take a hit, but it might be better than spending thousands on a new tranny and install.

you understand a used transmission is still going to have to be programmed to work, right? you'll probably end up with the same problem, because your not having the car properly diagnosed. instead of being a logical person and having the dealership look at it, your "shotgunning" the problem that you dont understand or know about. the only thing you know is the perception of the shift characteristics. why are you being so hard headed about this?! do you think people that are out of time/milage and are CP customers have the same rational as you? hell no, your acting retarded (yes READ THAT WORD) about the situation. either bring it to the dealership and deal with it customer pay or bring it to an independant that has the capabilities of programming and diagnosing the car, customer pay. either way you look at it, your paying for it. why not get it fixed the right time, the first time? chance taking it to humberto's yourapeein endepentant shop and have them fawk your car up more to save a couple hundred bucks, or take it to the dealership and have market support and dealer trained techs w/ the equipment to diagnose it. you understand that programming the EGS controle module (mechatronics)this is done w/ the progman SSS or an autologic (aftermarket) ONLY? (convince me otherwise) you understand that a fool and his money are soon parted twice? sigh. im done with this thread, srsly. |

if they diagnosed the car, then they should be giving you an explination, now huh? if you knew the problem, then this thread wouldnt have been started now, huh? and you know all this about the transmission, mechatronics, and how the DME interacts with shifting and transmission logic based on load and values, cause your trained to work on the car, huh. of course i have 6 grand. i deal with cars and modify the hell out of them. in fact, i have a whole bunch of 6 grand's i DO know if im going to monkey-jack with something that is under warranty and i FUBAR it, i know i have to pay for it. your options are slim and very known, which is why this is ironic you keep asking for a magic silver bullet post to fix your car thru internet keyboard osmosis. your options as i see it: 1) you pay for a correct diagnosis from a dealer and pay for the repair at BMW. you figure out how to pay for it: open a line of credit, borrow the money or pawn off some shizzle, sell a kidney, sell your soul..... etc.etc. 2) you live with the problem untill the lease is up and worry about paying the penalties when it gets turned in. you figure out how to pay for it: open a line of credit, borrow the money or pawn off some shizzle, sell a kidney, sell your soul..... etc.etc. this is just a life lesson that you imposed on yourself. i purchased a motorcycle, and i dont really like it. whos fault was that? mine. guess what? im still riding it, cause i dont want to spend a buttload of money again on another one. im living and learning with my mistake, just as you need to. and you might be able to turn the car in, if they can CPO it and sell it close to what the residual and other fee's are..... but if the car is flagged no warranty, then no CPO can be done to it. im not sure, you'll have to call BMW FS and play dumb. |

Wow...such help from this forum
BMW acts like Porsche....anything wrong..just replace the whole damn thing. It fixes the problem but at a huge cost. Independent shop that specializes in BMWs is your best bet...just gotta find the right one. Let them diagnose to determine if the whole tranny needs to be replaced. |

I would just dump the car any way you can, I am sure with how bad the industry is hurting right now some one would work out a deal for you. Your going to lose money, but its better than spending 6 grand on a transmission and possibly having the same issue a month later.

Why is BMW the bad guy here? I smell horse sh#t on this one. Vac lines and and the whole warranty is gone? No current tune, then why is shiv mentioned in the title?
Chasing a Cobra, and with the wife in the car?? Second trans? Sounds like the common thread in this failure maybe be the OP. AFAIK, I'm glad the dealer is calling BS on you. Don't you guys understand the cost of servicing this fool gets passed on to us? |
