Warranty, and Audio System

Someone told me that if u put a sound system in the E90, it voids the warranty, Is this true??????

I was thinking I would replace the front components and add a subwoofer all powered by a 4-channel amp and let the BMW amp power all the other stuff.

you void the warranty on all electrical components pretty much... If theres an electrical problem, the dealer may be able to point that problem to your sound system...

Man, that really sucks, cause I am an audiophile and when I was shopping for my 325i, I couldn't find one with Logic 7, so i guess i am stuck with the stock system. Dammit, i am pissed.

There are component speakers in the front doors, and I wanted to replace those, but I guess that is not happening because I dont want to void my warranty even though a sound system wired properly in a car does not fucking do anything

I've changed all the speakers and added amps. In the meanwhile, I've been back to BMW for problems and no issues here. It'll only void the audio part which is understandable.

And trust me, you don't have to add a subwoofer. Get a pair of good quality speakers for the fronts and replace the ones at the bottom of the seats. I had it setup as a 3 way system and there's more than sufficient quality bass coming out.

You could buy all the components for the Logic 7.

no because logic 7 has speakers in the rear doors and a center channel speaker. To install those, you would need 3 interior panels (2 rear doors and a new dashboard)

That is going to get quite expensive...

I could put speakers at least 10 times better for a quarter of the price

Magnussen-Moss act guys... wikipedia it. The dealer can void your electrical system or audio system warranty ONLY if they can prove beyond a doubt that your modifications/aftermarket parts are the cause of the failure of your electrical or audio system. True that if you have a problem with electrical or audio, and you've got an aftermarket system, it likely was the cause of the problem --but the dealer still has to prove it. They can't just void your warranty simply because you have something installed.

Sorry, this is completely incorrect. Magnuson-Moss (spelt correctly) has nothing to do with this.

There are three prohibitions under the Magnuson-Moss Act. They involve implied warranties, so-called "tie-in sales" provisions, and deceptive or misleading warranty terms.

For some reason, people ignorant of Magnuson-Moss' intricacies seem to confuse tie-in sales provisions with voiding a warranty (or not voiding) because of modifications. This has nothing to do with tie-in sales.

I suggest reading the entire Act.

Audio Upgrade

Hi there

I've just joined e90post and am a prospective buyer...I also love my Audio

My current audio setup is great but am not happy with the 'BMW Professional' system. I'd like to move my two amps, speaker and 10" sub to the new car but still keep the head unit for blue tooth etc...has anyone done this...
any pics.

Cheers

Here's the deal, folks, straight from the horses mouth.

I'm a BMW technician at a SoCal dealership.
We cannot void your warranty for having an aftermarket sound system installed, unless it's just one real !@#$ of a hack installation.

HOWEVER, it is fully within the rights of the dealership to deny to fix your complaint. If you come in complaining of a strange electrical failure, and you have an aftermarket sound system installed, we take a close look. if anything doesn't look 100% kosher about the install (and I've never seen an install that was 100% kosher, there's always hacked bits) we will tell you that
"we are unable to diagnose your claim at this time. please return to the facility which installed your aftermarket components and have the vehicle returned to a completely factory state. If at that time, your complaint is still present, we will do our best to properly diagnose and repair the issue."

My best advise:

Don't put aftermarket equipment in the vehicle. I've seen it cause too many problems. The only exclusion I would allow is changing speakers, and only speakers, and ONLY if wired PROPERLY! good solder or high quality crimp connectors, no twisted wires and e-tape.

From experience, sound installers tend to not be well enough educated about your specific vehicle, so they do things they don't know are wrong.

It is very common for your install to cause a battery drain, and destroy your $180 battery. If this happens, you're on the hook for the battery and at least $110 in labor. And those of you who think "draining a battery doesn't destroy it!" are wrong. Trust me. The batteries in these become inoperable if sufficiently drained.

Less common, but I've still seen it multiple times, is when an aftermarket head unit causes communication faults in the vehicle, and then your instrument cluster stops working, or worse, the vehicle won't start.

If you have more questions, abuot anything technical, let me know.
Sorry for the long post.

Hi Matt,
I understand your argument is quite correct. But if we still want to add Power Amp for subs only,How do you suggest for us to get the positive pole of the power amp power supply cable conectted to?Because I see that it is quite hard to connect it directly to the positive terminal of the car battery. It is pretty cramped in there. And I read some one talking about black male/female ? connnector,Which one is that?Picture is nice, and what part number,so I can get it at BMW dealership.

There must be someway for us to connect power to the positive battery terminal right ?
Can you help us all?
Thanks
