High Mileage e90's
Looking to hear from people with the most km's on their car. I am at 61,000 and would like to hear about car's with 80-100k or more and how they are standing the test of time.
Looks like I will be keeping mine for a while and given I put on about 20k a year it will be at 120k in 3 years and will be 6.5 years old. Thanks in advance for the replies

I think MechUT has the highest mileage E90 (330i) in Toronto. (in the forum at least)
I'm at 57,000 km right now... so far so good (touch/knock wood) Looks like I'll be keeping it for another few years since I put more $ in mods now.

40k Miles (65k km) and counting on an 06 330i m sport with no problems so far.... Hope to be keeping it for at least another 30 - 40k miles so woul dbe interested to hear from others also...
Just as a question to you all, I deliberatly plumped for a petrol over a diesel, not just for the noise and smoothness of the 6 but also as I believe the petrol is more reliable.... any thoughts?

Post Y2K Diesel engines are as reliable as gas-powered engines.

Disclaimer: I am a frugal shopper when comes to many things; borderline cheap bastards.
I usually drive my car for at least 7 years. I think the real question here is [assuming normal wears and tears]; what parts can potentially go wrong after the 4 years/80,000 km warranty expires so we can anticipate monetary wise? |

Found this post from MechUT, should be useful:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...08&postcount=8 120k km as of October I remember the only problems he had so far: - rear door lock erratic - warning lights came on after battery died (which seemed normal) - flat tire Though of course, if he sees this post, would be helpful to chime in too.

So even with Turbo's, Particulate filters (DPFs), the higher stresses on a diesel engine and reported problems of worn injectors.... are diesels realy as reliable?
If I were to say anything, pre 2k diesels (and I'm not just talking BMW) were more reliable due to them being built from seamingly iron billett and usually as tough as houses, what with 3rd and 4th gen diesels and all the technology to keep them on a par with the equivelent petrols it may just be the week link. I am biased as I have had a no. of VAG diesels fail on me! Saying that - i guess the same could be said with Petrols with double Vanos, direct injection etc etc. PS Big Mac any day and Coca Cola any day!

Thanks, alot of KMS in a short period, must be mostly highway........also sounds like he just followed standard oil changes which ofcourse brings up the old oil change debate.

By the way - I'm not one of these petrol only people... I can enjoy the best of both diesel and petrol power and for a long time was an avid supporter of diesels, however with the falling cost of petrol vs diesel - the seamingly better reliability of petrols, the lower initial cost and the improved fuel economy... I'd thought i give it ago!
Oh and that of the induction roar of a straigt 6 petrol between 4500 & 6750 rpm its a no brainer! ;-)

Lemon line ups
I've never been a fan of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft (VAG) vehicles [diesel nor gasoline]. The way I see it; once a lemon is a lemon regardless diesel, gasoline or rocket fuel.

To be honest, my interval is at 30k, but I do it at about 24k. One of the SAs once suggested that 30k may have been an error in the on board computer (perhaps for cold climates?), and that 24k really was the time, so as a precaution, I've gone by a lax 24k / 6 months time schedule for the oil changes. If I was doing low mileage, I probably would change it every spring year though. BMW didn't fix the door lock, as it happened at about 95k, and was out of warranty. |

The door lock blues
If all door locks (passengers and drivers) have issues then
the problem is Fuse #56 and 57 blown up; Else your door actuator is shot. SYSTEM LATCH, LEFT Part number 51227060295 $129.46 SYSTEM LATCH, RIGHT Part number 51227060296 $129.46 See attached.... If you are lazy like me; I'd go to any body shop and ask them to install it for you. $128 labour. Last edited by clairvoyant; 01-06-2009 at 02:38 AM.. |

Thanks!
It's just the one door, and I'm pretty sure the stealership quoted me much more than $250 installed. I will most likely just get Bimmersport to fix it during my next oil change.. but then, for $125 during a 'recession', how hard is it on the DIY scale? |

As hard as it gets
You need a fillister head screwdriver, a hair dryer, a hex screw driver, a trim glue (not sure where to get it but I am sure you can wheel and deal 2 tablespoons from any body shop), and a flat head screwdriver.
On DIY scale 1-5 [depending on how mechanically savvy you are]; I'd say 4. I've done it on Nissan 240SX, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and some VW. Never on bimmers. |
