Pretty sure you buy it at the end of the factory warranty. Or you buy it each year, that's how Porsche does it (up to 10 years). BMW's is 4 or 5 I think.

I asked and they don't do it anymore. One reason I didn't buy an M3.

some dealers now sell allianz extended warranty -- 3yrs, a maximum mileage (can't remember now). as mentioned above by 1q2w3e4r, if you get it before the original warranty expires, you get the new car warranty version; otherwise, you get a limited version.

And the cost for a maximum of 5 years (which includes your initial 3 years factory warranty)- so realistically 2 years extended - $2000 - $3000 ??

I think you should still be able to get extended warranty on cars that is still within 1 year since the original warranty expired...

As for the new car, you will need to purchase the extended warranty before you pick up your car and if you choose for a year, after the first year, you aren't allowed to continue it anymore... that's why we negotiated for another 2 years with our used car purchase... they have changed this policy quite a lot through out the past 10 years... hope this helps...

cheers,

richie
