Just something I noticed...
The LP560-4 pushes out 560bhp from a N/A V10. If a 4.2 V8 was based on this, it would reach 452bhp and since the V10 in the R8 is really from the LP560-4, this isnt impossible!

I like the maths. If your guess is correct and Audi are using the Gallado LP560 engine minus a bank of cylinder then it will indeed be revving to 8700rpm to produce the 452hp. But of more interest to me is the torque characteristics of the LP560 engine, according to Lamborghini it's 540Nm @ 6500rpm, that M5 high and it's a peaky engine much like the M3. Using your formula that would the RS5 a torque figure of 435Nm at similar revs which would be unacceptable to me. It's all sounding like another M3 only with awd, it will be a cracker car, just not for me by the sounds of it. P.S. What's the chances of it using a larger capacity engine than before, maybe a 4.4 or 4.5L V8, then there wouldn't be the same need for revs and torque could be more evenly spread. |

Anyway, I dont care about the high revving engine......I want fuel efficiency along with performance....I want turbo's or supercharger's or both together....I dont care...I just want forced induction in a RS model like the RS6...is that alot to ask....?

Regarding capacity, I would agree here but looking at that spreadsheet it seems to be 4.2l. But then again, I remember looking at the spreadsheet earlier and seen this: Quote:

I notice that the A7 has a 3.0TFSi with 300bhp, which I think is an improved A6 engine. Therefore I think with the S7 has a 4.0TFSi (supercharged) engine. Also, we notice supercharged V6's in other "S" models like the S4 and S5.

And I also read that this turbo'd V8 will replace the V10's found in S6 and S8. Anyway, Audi can still surprise us as they did with the S4's supercharged V6.

I thought that was a very interesting point you made there! However, the S6 and S8 produce 435bhp and 450bhp respectively. This new V8TFSi produces 395bhp which is a big difference. Then again, the new 3.0TFSi going into the S5 is ~30bhp less powerful than the 4.2 V8. Hmmm...but let's not forget the facelift A6 has the 3.0TFSi producing 290bhp yet the S4 uses the same engine and achieves 333bhp. Perhaps using the same engine, Audi will give it more power for the S6/S8 which clearly need it since they are heavier than the S7. Even more importantly, I think Audi are going to make the new A6 and A8 lighter! We should see the new A8 at the end of 2009 according to this spreadsheet. You are right about Audi being unpredictable It's tricky trying to find out what they are doing. I've lost a source or two that would have been able to give info. Ah well...

+1 on everything. About the 4.0TFSI V8, no matter what type of forced induction is used on this engine, it will be easy to extract the extra 50 or so hp needed for it to be competitive on an S6 or S8. Unlike a NA engine, Audi will also be able to increase the torque in a vast amount or make it more broader. And looking at the difference between the engines (3.0TFSI V6) in a S4/S5 and a normal A6, the hp has been increased by around 15%.(290hp vs 333hp) So if you take the same percentage increase (15%) and put it on the upcoming 4.0TFSI V8 rated at 394hp, you get a net of around 450hp. And I won't be worried about the performance comparing this 4.0TFSI with the 5.2 V10. For e.g: Just look at the new S4 (B8) already trouncing the old S4(B7) in a straightline even though it's 7hp down And as you said and I have read articles on it before, the upcoming A6 and A8 will be lighter. So that will definitely help in acceleration and emissions. Finally, I dont like Audi's unpredictability but I hope they come up with a great FI V8
