Worn Terra leather seat experince

Hi... Just thought i would post you details of a recent visit to my dealer. I noticed that the drivers side seat bolster )non sport seats) was wearing along the stiching (approx 5 inches along the bolster). Having only done about 5k I was disppointed to say the least. I happened to be in the dealer and asked if this was something they had come across before. The parts chap advised me to speak to servicing as this seemed unusual. So having got it checked out by servicing, they advised that it wasn't normal to experience this sort of wear and that they would replace the worn part (this after the car having done 11k by now).... After I picked it up last Friday I was pleasantly surprised to see they had replaced the entire leather for drivers side, back part of the seat...

Thought I would let you know, in case anyone else had the same issue and felt compelled to leave as is..... Speak to your dealer...

Only downside is that the back seat part is cleaner than the seat base! Out with the leather cleaner...

Glad you got your seat fixed! I have no problems with my leather seats. I clean/condition them every week and I get in and out of the front seats without coming into contact with the side bolsters. So far my car has 13000 miles and my seats look close to new.

the only problem that I had w/ mine was the wrinkles that I got on the drivers seat on the left corner. I always take my wallet out when I drive too.

Yes, I have just had my seat back replaced for exactly the same problem ( Lemon leather). The side bolster was worn over a six inch piece after only 10000 miles.

wow, bmw is so generous...That is a new definition of the 4yrs/50K mile wear and tear free maintenance...too bad, it does not applied to tires.

I think it does - my tires were cupping and they put 4 new tires on. I had 16000 miles. Although I was starting to get a louder ambient noise in the cabin and I complained about it.

Correct, up here in Quebec we no longer have tire warranty and as a result we no get same deal. Stewthebassman, another forum member, upon complaining of excessive wear, only got credit to replace 2 of 4 Bstones all season RFTs as a warranty issue with Bstone (BMW only facilitated the communication from what I understand).

I had problems with cupping too. The fronts starting showing it pretty bad at just 6k miles. I went to the dealer and they said that my tire pressure wasn't right and that RFT are sensitive to tire pressure differences. Nothing they can do.

Thats god to hear since the side bolsters are one of the areas that tend to get the abuse when we get in and out of the car.

Great service...maybe that is the reason they charge $100+ for oil change or $1300 for a 100k service on e36???
Also, do you plan replacing the Terra leather every 10k miles? My black leatherette looks like the day I bought it now after 9k miles.
Cheers
