TPMS question concerning wheels

Newbie question on this one....

Can you take the TPMS out of one set of wheels and put them into another?

I will probably end up with summer and winter rims. Instead of spending more on that, can I just have the shop swap them out each time they put the new rims on?? Or is that too expesive?

Yes you can .. it can be a bit pricey though.

To move TPMS from one set of wheels (with mounted tires) to another set of wheels (with tires mounted) cheapest I could find is 275ish dollars.

the tpms sensors are inside the rim. you would need to pay for a mount and balance each time you switch. cheaper to just buy the sensors.

Are you sure there are actually TPMS sensors in the rims?

Some systems (E90) use the ABS computer to calculate any difference in rolling diameter due to low pressure.

My E91 definitely has the calculating type, not a pressure sensor in sight!

Check out your handbook to see which type of system you have.

For the U.S. - Any E90/91/92/93 built in 06/early 07 most likely does not have TPMS. Anything build mid 07 and later should have TPMS.

You can tell by the stem on your tire. If it's just rubber, you do not - if it's metal - you do.

It's also better just to buy NEW TPMS because the rubber gromet wears out and can spring a leak if swapped. Just buy new ones and save the headache.

.
i hope you mean stems.

the sensors and stems are two seperate parts. the stems can leak, the sensors cannot.

the sensor is 45 bucks, the stem is 8ish.

That is just crazy! We here at VMR charge $15 per tire to mount/balance on our top of the line Hunter Road Force mounter/balancer. We even remove the TMPS for local customers without a charge. Its only 1 bolt, why not?

Hmm...well then, I guess I will just have to call a couple of places and see.

I dont have the car yet but if all goes as planned sometime in the next 3-4 weeks (assuming I can find the EXACT car I want...lol).

Thanks for the info. I just need to get my winters before hand since I will probably be running them for March at least.
