the thought of $650 is crazy.

The only problem with going aux set up is NO control via the radio

Wrong! There is control from the radio. You can adjust the Aux volume and compensate for the IPOD.

FYI Morristown is selling the interface for $250 .... my dealer is demanding 2.5hrs of labor @ $105hr for installing it.

If you just use a simple male 3.5mm jack to male 3.5mm jack to connect from the iPod headphone out to the aux socket there may be a very slight loss of sound quality due to the music going through 2 amps (the iPods and the car radio's). With the expensive BMW kit then they will be taking the sound from the iPod's line out (bypassing the iPod's amp). Weather you will notice this or not is debatable with other noises in the car and the quality of cabling between the the iPod and the radio and the quality of the rest of the stereo. I would be surprised if people could really tell in a blind listening sample whilst driving.

The other option is to use the line out, if you get something like the Monstor iCarCharger (which I have and others on here have recommended) then I think this is a good solution, the pros are:
  • It charges your iPod
  • The plug that goes into the power socket is low so you can close the armrest with it plugged in
  • The plug that connects to the iPod includes a 3.5mm line out jack
  • By using the line out it may improve sound quality, but it means it doesn't matter what volume your iPod is at, when plugged into the car it will be at the same volume - you just have to level the volume once with the car.

As I said before in conjuction with this if you have/get a wired remote for the iPod you just dangle it out of the arm rest and shut the arm rest so it dangles above the iDrive knob and you can control the iPod without having to get it out.

Some of you folks know I just bought my e90 2006 330i, loaded. When I was talking with the sales advisers (I have two for some reason, lol) Marco noticed the Apple sticker on the back of my MINI and said he was a Mac user as well and since I seemed pretty technical wanted to ask me a question.

Wanted to know how to rip/copy dvds from lackluster video, etc.... I said I have the software to do it, but I need something from you. I dont' want to pay for labour on the iPOd install, just the parts, which equates to something like 349.00 or w/e. He went and talked to his sales manager who came over and needed a copy of Macromedia/Adobe Studio MX and he said he'd make it happen.

I guess good things really do happen to evil people LOL

Do you see any mention of this in you 335i manual? Is it possible ask you SA if the 335i needs open console surgery or if its like the e60 and you just have to remove the glove box drill a hole and you are done?

Thanks

All BMWs have been prewired for cd changer for years. The E90 is also prewired in the glovebox. The problem is that the port is behind the center part of the dash. AFAIK, there is no difference in any E9x. They are all prewired.

By the way, since you mention the E60, that doesn't need as much open console surgery since the port is closer to the glove box.

Labor on this install should only be 1 hour. Tell you service dept to save the other two hours ($200) of ball scratching while they try to figure out how to connect the ipod to the adapter for some other guinea pig. Sounds like they are going to charge you more becuase they haven't done one yet.

I was just quoted $490 USD installed by my dealer.
It sounds like they haven't done an install yet, so I would likely be the first.

I really want to get the iDrive adapter, but I just can't justify spending $500 for an adapter for a device that costs $250-400.
