Brake Fluid Change Warning?
Hi All
Been a while since I last posted (am just recovering from severe food poisoning! Been off work for weeks now) Took the 335d out today for a run - its not done many miles for the last 6 weeks due to my illness and not driving it in the recent sub-artic temperatures, due to summer only run flats. As soon as I started it today it displayed a Red car icon on the dash. Went into the iDrive info and it says that the car is overdue an immediate brake fluid change (the 2 year time trigger one) Do I need to panic and rush the car to the dealer for changing or can I relax a bit and get it done sometime over the next month or so? Thanks;

You should be OK, but as brake fluid is hygroscopic it will have absorbed water since it was put in the car therefore reducing the boiling point and in turn braking peformance.
It won't suddenly stop working though, but peformance will obviously be not as good as new brake fluid.

Yeah, it's not like milk. It won't go sour overnight. But get it sorted soon. I think the yellow alarm comes on when you have a couple of weeks before it times out. Then it turns red. If you've been laid up for six weeks and not driven the car then the yellow just never had a chance to show up before the clock said red.
Hope you're feeling better. I can still remember my bout with food poisoning. It wasn't a pretty sight.

I asked about this as my brake fluid replacement warning came up on its own in between normal services.
They told me I had to get it done within 4 weeks of the 2 years or the vehicle warranty would be invalidated in relation to any part of the braking / ABS / Stability control etc. |

Just get it done - it's only about £50. Not worth invalidating warrenty

Or you could always just change the date in iDrive and go back a few years! That would stop giving you the warning.
