Does Service Department Make Special Notes Regarding Aftermarket Modifications?

I am wondering if anyone knows if the BMW service department makes formal notes of any mods which are noticed on a vehicle that comes in for any type of servicing. For example, if I bring my car in for a radio issue will they make notes in their "black book" that my car is lowered with coilovers? Forgive my paranoia...

I would think "they" might notate modifications having been made on the car if a severe problem caused them to do some troubleshooting.

I say this because it would potentially give them justification to blame the problem on a modification found on the car .....

Why would they do that? To potentially use the info to void your warranty later?

I was more referring to the OP bringing the car in for some sort of problem.

When the tech begins the troubleshooting process to find whatever problem exists with the car; the tech may notate anything that has been changed on the vehicle (performance/engine modifications).

I would imagine if anything is notated it will remain with the car's service/repair history.

My reason for concern is the fact that my car is a lease....I changed the wheels and lowered with coilovers. At the end of the lease when I will be returning the car and will change back to stock suspension and wheels. At the time of inspection which is performed on all lease returns I don't want them to say I am responsible for some issue they find and attribute it to the fact that they have a record that my car's suspension was modified during my leasing term. I hope that makes sense.

It makes sense however, I have yet to hear of anyone having had any issue at end of lease regarding your concerns. The only thing that I know has bitten some of the members at time of "lease return" is not having the RFTs in place and then being charged for replacement cost.

As long as you're mindful of the fact that the car has to be returned to it's original condition at time of turn-in, I wouldn't give your concerns a second thought.

Thanks for your reply, at least I wont have to worry about the RFT's or the wheels, they will only have about 40 miles on them (I could not stand the way the coupe looked stock)
