Way way back in the day when I bought my first BMW that I really couldnt afford, so every dollar was crucial to me, a similar thing happened.
Dealer A had a 1993 318is, with options I wanted for the $350 or so I could pay. Dealer B called and said they had located a 1994 (end of the year, new cars coming out), but it had one extra option, and they offered the car for the same price, around $350. I took the deal. The 1994 had a price increase, and included the extra option, which raised the car by about 1800 dollars. Funny thing, it was located at the dealer A lot. That fucker was on the phone paging me all day trying to get me to take the car. He eventually gave up and transfered the car to dealer B and I picked it up the next day. He called again in a day or so to let me know that I missed a great car, I told him that it was ME that got it from the other dealer, and he was pissed. I explained it to him. I got a newer, more expensive car for the same price he was trying to get me to pay for a previous MY with less options.
