+1, only covers major mechanics such as engine and tranny. Doesn't cover navigation or if you get some sort of rattle. I think some 3rd party warranties are better then CPO since they cover more and are also for a longer duration.

so in your opinion, it's something not worth purchasing with BMW?

anyone with an e90 have any experience with BMW's warranty beyond 50k miles?

My daughters car is a CPO car, covers only mechanical items, IE engine, transmsision and ECU's for those. $50 deductible per occurrence. Good for piece of mind. I would google 3rd party ones and get some quotes for coverage, Warranty Direct is a good one I think, and use that to bargain price down. If BMW won't haggle go third party, they let you take the car anywhere and good ones pay direct to the shop not reimburse you, deductible there as well.

I just purchased a CPO 06' 330i as well. I also added the extended maint. plan which covers up to 100K. I'd recommend this as it will pay for itself.

I believe this is how it goes:

1. Original warranty (normally 4/50)
2. CPO (a bit more limited warranty that extends to 6/100)
3. Extended maintenance plan (extends the original warranty's maintenance plan to 6/100)

So why would you want the CPO if the Extended Maintenance Plan extends the original warranty?

the extended maintenance is just a prepayment for maintenance items. For my E46, they said I could extend the maintenance program, so that it would cover me for the additional time, which would cover brakes, rotors, oil changes, wear items etc.

The only reason I declined the extended maintenance was that I was pretty sure that I was NOT going to be putting $500 into the car in the time frame alloted (I have 20k on my car. It doesn't get driven much).

However, it WAS a CPO, and the extended warranty did save me from spending a lot on a new alternator and a new crankshaft position sensor. I did have to pay the $50 deductible both times, but I didn't have to pay for towing. Plus the CPO says that they will tow you to the closest BMW dealership, but they paid for the towing to my preferred dealership even though it was a little further away.

If you don't have a CPO and are looking to purchase a third party warranty place, I would recommend going through AAA. They have a warranty program which will allow you to bring the car to any service centre (dealer or independent) and all you need to do is get the repair authroized and they pay the garage directly for the repair. I had that with my old Passat and it covered pretty much everything including a broken truck release.

Also note that in the BMW CPO fine print it states that they do not necessarily have to give you brand new parts. They can give you a rebuilt alternator if they wanted to.

Does it cover items like AC, widow motors and door locks? Aside from the engine and tranny, these are the items that give the most headeaches and most hurt to the wallet.
