CCFL's or Angel Eyes, or HID's or whatever!!
Hello,
OK, first things first. I know NOTHING about HID's, CCFL's, Angel Eyes or any other variant thereof. No, im sort of lying. I know HID's are alternative bulbs that are usually more blue or white than normal bulbs, I know Angel Eyes are some kind ring which might or might not be Xenon or whatever... and CCFL's I am fairly confused about. I want to simplyify things. A colleague of mine has an E36 BMW which has some sort of upgraded lighting setup - he fitted this and sells the kits to do so, and fits them for others. His work is good and he has appeared in a couple of mags with his E36 so he is quite into all this sort of thing. He has failed on many occasions to explain this ins and outs of all the above when it comes to the E90. Like I said, I want to simplify things - all I want is to make my headlights which are currently a nasty yellowish like all those normal peasant cars, and make them white ish - with the Angel Eye ring effect like a £40k car should have. I want this to look completely OEM - like it did on my E46 M3 and my Focus ST and any other car I have owned since 1998 lol... I think its a DISGRACE BMW dont offer Xenon as standard on the 335D but they dont so there we go! Anyway, matey at work has suggested I ask the following question - in his own words - " What you may want to post on the forum is if you can buy CCFL style rings where you can split the headlight and attach the rings on each side? Wiring them in to the side light wires. " So, can anyone answer his question? Search has found some info, but seemingly not what he needed!! I guess overall, if anyone can answer my question which is basically - what do I need to buy to get this effect, if I can!!! Cheers guys Matt |

My personal opinion is that you'll need replacement headlight assemblies (xenon) - I can't see your man being able to crack open the headlight and retro-fit a cornona ring (angel eye).
The easiest/best/most complete option is to source replacement headlamp assemblies with xenons. However, on top of that you'll need the ballasts/ignitors, self levelling ecu, washers etc etc plus (I think) the car will require coding. Not for the faint hearted, so good luck brother.
