Correct iPod kit fo 06 330i

I've read through numerous threads and websites and can still not determine the correct ipod Kit for my 06 330i. Here's what I've got:

Professional head unit, does not play MP3 CDs, NO Sat radio, NO CD Changer.

It seems after reading everything that I am caught in between the different models: I don't have the CD changer for MObridge, my head unit can't play MP3 CD's for the Dension, etc...

I'm extremely confused here, can someone sort this out?

I feel your pain. I am also going through a similar dilemma. I can't play mp3 cd's on my 06 330i with idrive. There is a software update that you can get for your car that will enable mp3 cd's to be played from your head unit. It's a free update because it is an issue that bmw knows about. Just take it to a dealer. My 330i is suppose to have already had the mp3 update but for the life of me I can't get that damn thing to play them. I tried many solutions I found on here but nothing has worked. I feel like taking it to a dealer and asking them to check for sure that it can play mp3 cd's. I am thinking of getting the ipod interface but well I need to get an ipod and also go to the toilet and crap out $500 to get it installed at a dealer. Good luck to you! Let me know if and when you get it to work.

Ok so I had been thinking along those lines too - I've got an appointment with my dealer next week to get the MP3 CD enabled. Now, if I'm going to install the oem MOST adapter, do I need to have a CD changer already installed so that my radio is programmed for it? I know you can't use them in conjunction, but do you have to have it originally?

No. It's not necessary. However, the MOST adapter is not a DIY job for several reasons, including the fact that the car has to be coded for it and the car may require a Progman update.

As for what I have heard you do not need a CD changer to get the ipod adapter installed. It uses the CD changer connections so you cannot use it if you had it. I have read up on a new ipod adapter for the 330i called Mobridge. It seems to be the same as the oem version. I called the company to get more info and also checked their website. It's about $600 for the unit and another $200 for labor which includes them taking it to a dealer to get the programming done for it to function properly. Also it has an SD card slot for future updates.

I looked at mobridge, just seems like a little bit of overkill $-wise to get an ipod working. If you're patient, you can find the OEM MOST connector online for under $200 used. Just trying to nail down whether or not you've got to have a CD changer pre-installed before you can install the MOST kit. thanks for your input!
