In general, all E9x have been very reliable, with a few notable exceptions (the early 320i being the main culprit with engine troubles). I think one or two people have had issues with a 325i misfiring, or requiring replacement injector packs and coils, but this hasn't been common at all. With regards to the other mechanical aspects, the E9x range has been solid and reliable - no major suspension failures, gearbox failures or anything of that nature. There have been a few iDrive issues on early cars, but if anything was going to go wrong, it would have happened already and been replaced under warranty. You need to have a good browse of the main UK forum - there's a wealth of information here, and a lot of it very entertaining reading too...
