Hence the name "stealers", the gits.

Never trust them.

Trading Standards should be involved.

You should name and shame.
Well, they also checked the tyre depths and oil.....wtf! I think they thought they had a time slot on the car, so used it up

The job sheet should of course had the cost they were going to charge upfront.

I can't believe they argued with you on this. Did they really agree to half it?

Seriously dodgy practice.

Yes, to pay half was his second compromise....

Me paying the £77 and then getting a 10% discount of the full repair was his first

Should have asked him to add it to the bill for the insurers to review. Doubt if he would have tried to con an insurer into paying for a repair quote inspection.

Ive just tried to claim off the council for hitting a big pot hole, and they have rejected it.

So a strong letter will be returned, as i dont agree with there excuse, they said the road was inspected 2 weeks before and no pot holes were found, then this grew from nothing in 2 weeks,

Ouch....so did this damage an alloy? Council default position is to reject your claim!

I had to have exactly the same part on my E91 changed in the summer after I ran over the remains of a Volvo S40 on the A3 on the way back from the ferry.

At the main dealer in Peterborough they replaced this part (which cost £32 plus VAT) and the lip things in front of the wheels and the whole lot including fitting and VAT came to £95. They did the whole job in under an hour whilst I sat and drank some of their coffee.

All very civilised and no they did not charge me for the quote.

That sounds exactly what a good dealer should do. Tell me, did they put it on the ramps or look at it in the car park to see what work was needed?

I had the about the same but on a motorway. While behind two speed limited mobile roadblocks trying to overtake each other I hear this gun shot like noise. Pulled over, looked around the car and couldn't find anything. Looked underneath and found a similar bar was stuck in the right rear plastic jack block, pointing 30 degrees down. One end was just 1" of the road surface, other side had gone completely thru the jack point. No other damage though then two holes in this plastic bit.. And scraped knuckles when it came finally out..

I took it down to my local BMW bodyshop (separate from the dealer showroom) because I had no idea what the extent of the damage was and I wanted it properly checked over to make sure their was no serious damage anywhere.

This they did (took them about 20 minutes to get the car on the ramps and have a proper look) and then came back and told me what they had found

To be fair, I was planing on going through the insurance but when the guy came back he told me that "in his opinion" I might want to consider paying for the repair myself as my excess was probably more than the total bill for the job. He went on to tell me the cost (£95) so I booked it in their and then.

His advise was to book it in and let them do it whilst I waited to save the costs of hire cars etc.

When I then sent my bill to SAGA (the other cars insurance company) for the £95 plus £30 to cover the two trips to the body shop they didn't even argue and sent me a cheque by return.
