oem alarm and comfort access question

when the alarm is on.. and you have comfort access.. do you need to press the button to disarm the alarm? or does it automatically disarm when you're in range?

It disarms when the doors unlock.

press and hold down the trunk open button on your key fob until the alarm sounds.

How long do I have to hold for? I tried that a while ago and it didn't do anything.
