Four wires is enough to tap onto 2 canbus. The Freescale micro (M9S12DP5) has 5 CAN controllers. With enough transceivers you could tap into all the major canbus: Powertain, chassis and body.

The SF Bay Area has seen major rain over the past few days. The wet roads may be interfering with testing.
