On my new 335, I'm going to be running dedicated snows in the winter and dedicated summers when it warms up.
My question is on wheel size: in the Boston area, do any of you think that running 19s is a mistake? Are our roads too harsh for 19s even when it's nice out? I'm planning to run non-RFTs and carry a donut in the trunk. Thanks.

It'll be ok. I ran the Style 163M all summer and they held up fine. The only problem I had was a flat at 11:30pm on 7/3 close to BMC. I slowly limped home since I was only a mile away from home.

Myself and others have run 19" wheels (and some members are running 20") and as long as you avoid most of the big potholes, you'll be fine.

I would not go bigger than 18. The roads around here are pretty bad even in the summer.

Are there no RFT options for 19s? Tire repair kit sounds great, but don't think it would have helped after I hit a pothole on SE expressway last week...
I was able to drive home (25 miles) with a 2x3" window in my sidewall. |

I don't understand why everyone is so against RFT. This is a good example of why you should love these tires. I think the safety factor outweigh the performance factor in a big way. I'll sacrifice a little performance and not have to worry about changing a flat tire on the expressway any day...

i know of at least 2 options for 19" rflt tires - Bridgestone and Pirelli both make them.

I'm looking at the same set up (or maybe alufelgen) are you running staggered with the xi? if so, what tire sizes? Can't seem to find the suggested sizes in RFT.

I think 19" looks the best on the e9x
but it doesn't matter if you run 17", 18", or 19"....f you hit some of these potholes dead on - its game over for most rims/tires. I personally don't roll on anything beyond a 18" & 40-series sidewall for that happy medium of looks, comfort, and abosorption of crappy roads.

Go Big or Go Home
I put 20's on my car last summer and never had a problem. Performance was solid yet had to be more aware of the road conditions and the potholes.

tire widths will stay the same as i have now - 225 in front - 255 rear (if i remember correctly). As for sidewalls - droppin down to 35 in on the fronts and 30 on the rears (need too cuz im going +1 to 19" in wheel diameter) funniest part is, the tires cost more than the wheels do ![]() i was told by the people at VMR that my choices for RFT's for 19" with the width and sidewall i need are limited to either Bridgestone or Pirelli. Since the car came with B-Stone and I have no probs with them, I assumed why not stay with them.....

For those of you with strong RFT vs. non-RFT opinions, have you driven the car on both? How would you describe the ride difference?

NonRFT Mich PS2s, in my case, are stickier and quieter on the road.
