truth about dynos for 335d/i and M3

is it true that measuring the power & torque of BMWs with "smarter" ECUs like the 335d/i and M3, is only possible with dynos that spin the front wheels too?

may be a stupid think but that's what I've heard.....

When i had my A3 FWD dyno'd you had to remove the ABS/ESP fuse otherwise the car went nuts with stationary rear wheel and moving front ones.

Don't know with BMW though......

Who here has had a 335i/d M3 dyno run?

The car will throw up error codes because the front wheels are not spinning but these clear themselves when the car is driven on the road.

We dyno 335d's and E92 M3's very regularly and dyno them with no issues with the front wheels not moving.

wow....your post definitely clears it

the guy who told me this, said that if the front wheels are not spinning the engine will not rev over 3000 rpms (diesel) therefor the dyno would not offer a real figure for power & torque.....

The only tricky thing about dynoing diesel's is if they are auto's. Takes some practice putting the car under load with the box kicking down.

Look forward to the results bud. You may be only given the WHP (Wheel HP) Due to it being an auto. The Flywheel figure (Bmw quote 286bhp) will be calculated mate.

Id expect to see 230-245bhp at the rear wheels mate.

No, the Quaife DOES NOT affect any of the measurements taken by the rollers
