Service Cancelled!
I'd booked my car in for its first service today. It's a 2007 335i Auto and has relatively low miles.
On occasions I detect a little bit of lag in low rev ranges and suggested this be tested and the latest software updates applied if necessary - We agreed that should this be required it would be done under warranty. OK, now I personally don't believe that I should pay for any updates to make the car run as it should have when it left the factory, however I see their point so I agreed to this. However at same time I asked whether my iDrive could be updated to the latest firmware revision. I was quoted £250. I was flabbergast and promptly cancelled the service + updates and walked out. Can anyone indicate what they may have paid for this please. |

Not 100% on this but doesn't the update take ages to apply?
Im assuming they charge so they dont get people in all the time to ask for updates if nothings wrong. |

tell them (or possibly another dealer now) that the CD continues to play after you've switched the car off every now and then. There is a PUMA about this (rectification notice in the event of customer complaint) and they will update the iDrive software.

I have noticed that mine does this, I turn it off and I can hear clicking and whirring sounds come from the DVD slot. Can't be the cd slot as there was no disc in.
I am planning on getting an oil change as it is a year old and done about 11k miles. The service indicator says there is another 7k miles to go before it needs a service but seems a bit long to change the oil. I am getting some Mobil 1 LL04 for it too. |

I asked about an update on mine a couple of years ago and she said you have to pay unless there is a fault.
So I said 'erm ok - the I drive is slow to respond sometimes' she said ok thats fine we'll do an update (need the car for 2 days in case the download crashes!) for free. Like xenon says, just make something up. |

There's been quite a bit of discussion on the forum about which oil to use for a 335D service - the conclusion is (and I have this in writing from BMW) is that Castrol Edge Turbodiesel LL04 is recommended. About £90 from Halfords for 8 litres and will save you £50 - £60 on the first service, if you supply it yourself. Ed

My idrive sofware was upgraded under warranty - all I reported was slow to respond and often crashes. They upgraded it and no problems since

I bought 5 litres of LL01 (for the price of 4 litres) and they are going to get some LL04 for me so as I have already got half of what I need I'll give them a chance to get me the right stuff and then I'll book it in. |

Watch out for the right flavour of Edge TurboDiesel LL04 though, I believe there is a 5w40 and a 0w30. I forget now which is the recommended one for our Diesel BMW's
Probably very little in it really.. |
