I just burned a couple of discs with MP3's, was able to get like 185 songs on each disc then play like a normal CD. Helps to have the song title on display since there are so many songs on the disc. MP3 does not wirk with cars with nav as I understand.

yea us with navi are screwed.
I could care less since I use my IPOD but now that IPOD decided to go insane I really wish I could play mp3 cd. From what I hear its available on the fall models so hopefully there will be a simple software update. |

My 320i (in Australia) has a basic CD player - no stacker, no navi.
I thought I'd give mp3 a go in the CD player to see what happens. So I put in a burnt CD full of mp3's. It worked wonderfully. It even plays windows wma files too. But the "title" and "artist" display info seemed to show characters in mp3 format over wma format. Next I'll try a DVD loaded with music to see if it can handle it. The only problem is it takes a few seconds to load all the track info from a mp3 CD. So it would take ages to load a mp3 DVD. |

It all depends if the software allows the nav DVD drive to read MP3 |

Thanks, it would be great if it did.
I am thinking it should because it reads a CD as a source of input. The drive can obviously read DVD's since the NAV disc is DVD. The software upgrade in Sept. should just enable a codec that allows reading of a Mp3 disc, therefore making the DVD (which can be read) just transport as an input and then be decoded (using the codec). Wishful thinking................ |

DozyDriver do you have the "business" or the "professional" radio? If I got it right, the Mp3's can only be played with the professional radio.

I've noticed a couple of "quirks" with the mp3 playback on the Professional radio and wondered if anyone else is experiencing these and if there is a way around.
There seem to be basically three modes of display on the radio when in mp3 mode. Every time the car is restarted it seems to reset to the default of showing the track number, but not the ID3 tag or filename - not particularly useful. It is possible to then push "list" on the menu and get the filename listed (two at a time). But even in this mode, it does not scroll to the next file when browsing through the songs. It just stays on the last song played, which seems like a bug. The third mode is to show the ID3 tag song name and artist name - clearly the most useful. Here are my questions: - Is it possible to save the radio default to always be in mode 3 showing ID3 song & artist? I cannot find how to do this. - Is anyone else having the same bug in mode two when the song filename is listed but will not advance? I've also noticed that when the radio is put in random mode, pushing the track change button will take it out of random and immediately into playing by alphabetical order. There does not seem to be a way to just skip a song but keep going in random. Anyone else experincing these issues? Maybe the much talked about software update will address...

Wait let me get this straight. If I order a stock 330 with no idrive, the sound system that comes with the car allows me to insert a CD full of mp3s into the dash and it will play it (and potentially show the song/title depending if i have id3 tags)?
