rejecting my car?

Hi Guys,

Before I go to speak to a solicitor etc, I was seeking out a bit of advice here from you lot first.

Basically, I want to know is it possible to 'reject' my car - ie, take it back to the stealers, and give it back, as it obviously isn't fit for purpose.

I'll try to keep the story short and to the point...

My car is round at a mates garage for new pads - he phoned me earlier to say that the camber seems to be out on my car... again.... and i need 2 new rears, and the fronts need to follow suit soon.

Now this is after this has happened twice before, and the last time cost me over 2 grand as I had to buy 2 new rims as they were cracked - but not due to the fact that they were lying in - no no - it's the potholes according to BMW

so long story short - my car has had camber issues from the very beginning - which I made them aware of. I had the car KDS aligned after arguing with the Stealership the last time - I bought 4 new tyres, and 2 new rear alloys, and lo and behold - about 6000 miles later I'm getting the same sh*t again.

Also he told be the seals around the diff have gone on both drivers and passengers side - but more so on the drivers.

I am so p*ssed off - I bought this car new to enjoy it, and have so much rotten luck with it, i'd happily walk away from it - but what do I do?

Have I any standing after approx 16 months to walk away from the car?

Thanks in advance

Ross

Sorry Ross, but essentially no.

As I understand it, the dealer is allowed the opportunity to fix the defects and there is no stated limit to how many attempts he has. Your lawyer will clarify this for you.

My blood boils when I hear about the tyre and cracked rims nonsense BMW have been perpetuating and my sympathy to you in that particular regard.

thanks Alan,

just as I expected really...

i'm just p*ssed off at the bad luck i'm having with my car.... It's exactly as it came from the factory, and the fact that the same BS has happened with the wheels and tyres makes me really hate it!

surely though Alan there has to be a reasonable amount of attempts they can have before the car is deemed unfit for purpose?

I was told that the KDS alignment would sort out all the problems but there you go....

so another 2 grand down, and the frigging car is still chewing tyres on the inside... AArgh!

if its chewing tyres like this then the fault should be apparent, END OF!

you should be able to get the car aligned by any "specialist " alignment organisation which do carry out 4 wheel alignment. KDS is just teh system BMW use.

6 k miles is nothing in terms of wear.

ask the deal for teh report of the last times KDS... afterll its only as good as the tech that is using it assuming you did get an alignment done and corrections made.

one of my freinds had a simmilar problem but associated with handling. it went in had KDS and no improvement or symptoms came back nere immediatly.

when he asked for teh before and after results they "could not find the documentation" and did it again. thsi time the car did have before and after results and its fine and has been so for a while.

as fro the rims, its not new to get wheel damage with a BMW after hitting a pard part of road. thsi happend to me 2 with an E34 5 series and you could see the distortion. no crack, just distortion. this manifists itself as hig speed wobble from the affected wheel, but shoudl not cause tyre damage unduly.

get teh results of teh KDS and post them up. i'm sure that you will get a series of opinions.

if and when you do have work done i suggest that you get a tyre tread gauge and start to weekly assess your tyres (write it down in a table from each wheel) and that way you will catch the problem before it costs you too much. i know its a pain, but YOU need to do someting different!

Dario

it's going in to BMW next week - I've also noticed seals are going in the diff on both sides, and it's leaking some oil...

then to top it off, on my way home, the friggin hazard lights started coming on by themselves and wouldn't stay off!

Ross, take it to Central Tyres (Belfast) and ask them to remove the camber on the wheels as much as they can.....

My tyres did the same but they did last 15,000 miles and 30+ laps of the RING.....

Also I bought 4 new Bridgestone run flats like what is on the car for £809 for all 4.....

So don't buy the tyres from the dealers etc, and don't let them near the tracking.....

I'd say they are wipeing your eye........................

Thanks Amos - it's going to Prentices on Thursday for them to look into what the problem is with the diff leaking.

I wount be buying tyres from them though - I know Armo is looking into prices for me too, but will definitely go to Central tyres to get the camber adjusted.

did they get your camber sorted?
