Not good for any type of chrome wheel!
But alot of todays wheels lips are a machined diamond cut finish with a clear coat over them. This gives the appearance of a shiny metal finish, but its not chrome. Most OEM wheels are not chromed at the factory, this is aftermarket. So if your wheel is this type that I mentioned above (machined finish w/clear) yes they are repairable.... Being in the business for over 23 years detailing, Innovative Detailing has detailed just about anything from mild to wild. And in the process you learn the different type of wheel finishes that are out there on todays vehicles. Painted/Clear coated Clear Coated Aluminum Polished Aluminum Chrome Anodized Magnesium Carbon Fiber Hope this helps Dave @ Innovative Detailing |

Dave
I have a set of forged aftermarket rims with a polished lip and the lips have alot of brake dust and are very hazy/cloudy. I have tried mothers polish as well as NOXON (sp?) metal polish but nothing works. I even bought a mothers power ball and although it improved the looks theres still noticeable haze in the lips. I wont even bother trying to clean the inner barrels. I ordered a wheel refinishing kit from eastwood co here http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/p...iProductID=953 The kit contains the following # 4 Four-inch Spiral Buffs # 3 Tapered Goblet Buffs # One Four-inch Loose Section Buff # Two Buff Tapers for 1/4" Chucks # Two 1/4" Shank Mandrels # 1 Three-Pound Tube of 80 Grit Greaseless Compound # One Three-Pound Tube of 220 Grit Greaseless Compound # One Three-Pound Tube of 320 Grit Greaseless Compound # One 13 oz. Tube of Tripoli Compound # One 14 oz. Tube of White Rouge Compound Do you think the wheels will restore their original shine once I use the following products to refinish them?? |

Its possible that you may get better results using this system, but you have to be sure that you have NO clear coat on the lip of these wheels. To get the best results you need to get away from the drill, and if you have access to a automotive compressor and a high speed pneumatic die grinder which spins at a higher rpm this will work far better. I would test a small area using these products from course to fine, and if it works your good to go. Out here in California we have a company called MAG MASTERS and thats all they do is polish aluminum to look like chrome. They have big industrial machines, but with pneumatic tools you should be good. Dave @ Innovative Detailing Mobile Auto Salon - O.C. Cali |
