Cost of extended warranty?

Putting the wheel incident behind me now, next issue will be how much extended warranty will cost when manufacturers runs out in May. I read in one of the BMW mags that they have a new scheme with an excess payable per 'event' and that you wont be covered for anything you've had replaced before [in my case a new fuel tank pipe]. Also read they wont cover any car thats been modified.

I emailed my lovely Scothall for details of the options, the reply being that BMW will contact me 1 month beforehand to give me a quote. Great customer serive once more.

With big costs for a service, tyres, brakes iminent, I'm tempted to flog it but cant face a £6k hit between likely trade in and finance settlement. Probably going to run it to 120k miles now.

So with 71k miles now on the 06 330d, prob 75k in May, any idea what a years extended warranty will cost me?

When I asked at the dealers last year I was told around £600 a year [4cyl ] and that it wasn't as good as the original warranty, didn't cover everything, I decided against doing it in the end

Well the are also 3rd party warranty companies which are sometimes quite good. The BMW one is going to be pricey either way, so might be worth looking at other options

just had my letter in the post today for bmw warrenty, as my 3 year warrenty runs on 17th march, they have 3 packages for my car 560ish 350 300 of the top of my head top one is everything even breakdown cover runing down to the last one that covers just parts, but you can make it cheaper with access to make the cover cheap so with a £200 access you pay 360 a year for total cover, you get a letter in the post

IMHO you're better off saving the money to pay for any 'unexpected' works yourself.

I bet the BMW policy excludes things like SAT Nav / in car entertainment / bluetooth etc - and its these which are the most problematic. With your high mileage they'll scream 'wear and tear' to try and avoid a payout.

Don't forget you have 24 months parts and labour warranty on any BMW parts fitted or work carried out even when outside new-car warranty period.

Is your engine really going to blow up? I doubt it. Your car is worth 11k now book trade-in with 75km miles (they'd probably offer you 10 at the moment), and its dropping circa £600 per month, is it worth £500 / year to warranty it?

Thanks, looks like you are the only one so far with an actual offer from BMW, so are you going to go for it?

I'm paying £26 a month for mine - full coverage. (Supposedly!)

One thing I think is important is when selling it on, I usually whack em on autotrader - if you were buying a high mileage decent motor, you'd pay a premium if there was some manufacturers warranty left.

I've never had a problem with BMW electrics in 10 years of various cars, but I did need a new gearbox at 90k miles in a previous 330d touring and that would have been £4k without a warranty.

The most painful thing to decide on is whether to let my wife have it as her daily school run/piss about car while I stick 600 miles a week on her Merc - dull city

So thank you but I'm rambling on, half heartedly wondering whether to sell it, probably wont
