chevron since i started driving 6 years ago. the difference between shell, 76, mobil, and chevron around here is less than 10 cents/gal.
the rest of my family always uses chevron too (07 silverado classic, escalade, slk-500). |

does anyone know why arco is so terrible? or is it just in our mind.
from what i hear they are cheap because they buy other companies' extra fuel load. for instance if shell has excess gas, they just buy from that company.

Arco vs. Shell/Chevron/Mobil
November 30th, 2007 | admin | Posted in Finance These days the price of gasoline is so high everyone wants to do their best to cut their expenses. The first people do to save on gas is become more selective about where they buy their gas from. Usually, the price of gasoline at name-brand stations like Shell, Chevron, or Mobil is usually higher than what it is at Arco and no-name mom-and-pop outfits. As you debate if it’s really worth it to go to one of these cheaper gas stations instead, you’ll inevitably think of this trade-off: The gas sold at Arco and no-name gas stations may be cheaper but at the same time it’s also of lower quality and, in the long run, it may damage my car’s engine. These are the two common misconceptions people have about Arco gas stations. Let’s take care of them one at a time: 1.) Misconception: The gasoline sold at Arco stations is of lower quality compared to what you get at name-brand stations like Shell, Chevron or Mobil. That’s not true. Gasoline is a commodity product. The gasoline sold at Arco is just as good as the gasoline sold at Shell, Chevron, Mobil and other so-called name-brand gas stations. Those fancy additives that these other stations advertise don’t do much for your car at all. It’s just great marketing to justify a higher price. 2.) Misconception: Arco is cheaper than Shell/Chevron/Mobil. Why is this a misconception? Arco doesn’t accept credit cards. That means you can’t use your cash back credit card at Arco. Shell, Chevron, and Mobil, however, do accept credit cards. This works to your advantage. Here in California, we are paying like $4 / gallon. Do some math. The effective price you’re paying for gas is just $3.80 at 5% cash back and $3.88 at 3% cash back. Now, the price difference between Arco and Shell/Chevron/Mobil is less than 10 cents / gallon in most places. That means Arco gas is actually more expensive to buy. im not defending arco... but i havent noticed a big difference in performance when using them.

1. Shell
2. Chevron/76 That's it. I used to get Mobil when I first got teh 335, but it was making my rear bumper really black and dirty. So I banned Mobil from my car. |

In my area, filling up with arco + paying the CC fee turns out to be about the same as filling up at shell/chevron, where you're not charged a fee. So why not?

ive done it before. i emptied my tank and put it in and litteraly it was a waste of money. your better off making the mixture of gas in the engine richer insead of being so lean. but rumor is that Jet fuel is really good for cleaning out engines in cars and actually makes your car pull like new. not surem if its true ive never gotten my hands on some jet fuel. |
