Help.. got a speeding ticket

Hey guys,

I got a speeding ticket about 3 months ago for going 40 on a 25 zone on manhattan blvd. I requested an extension and the date is coming up soon (march 9th) should i just pay the fee and take online traffic school? is there anything else I can do? Thanks!

definitely just pay and do the traffic school. i have used citationstation.com twice now and have recommended it to all my friends. it is cheap, takes almost no time (finished in about an hour), and they mail you the completion receipt very quickly.

I say to first ask yourself this question:

Did I do anything that would give the officer a reason to remember me?

If you didn't, why not contest it? Just play dumb like you didn't know the area well and were just keeping up with traffic. That is how I got out of 3 tickets so far. I would always become the nicest guy when pulled over. Never do anything to give them a reason to remember me. Extend the court date out as far as possible. Request the earliest session. Usually, if this is the case, the likely hood of the cop showing up for court drops dramatically. At least that is my experience.

I've done this 3 times mysef, and had other friends do this often. All with 99% success so there's a chance it could work for you.

Request as many extensions as possible at the last minute. Eventually on your 2nd (or 3rd) extension you file online, they will give you an arraignment date that's a good 6-8 months out from when you originally received your ticket. Go to the arraignment, plead 'not guilty' and pay your fine (reimbursed later) and they give you a trial date that's about 30-45 days out from the arraignment. Ten business from that court date, request another extension (your last one) and it's pushed back another 30-45 days after that. By the time you show up to your actual court date almost a year later from when you received the ticket, your cop most likely will not be there as lots of things may have changed for him (reassignment, budget cuts, scheduling conflicts, etc). Approx 6 weeks after that, you get all of your money back.

Worse case, if your cop is there a year later at your trial date, just tell the clerk that you want to take traffic school and you'll never have to face the judge (if you don't want to). Otherwise, there are other tricks and things you can do and say during your trial that can conflict and possibly discredit the cop (you'd be surprised as to what the attorneys I work with have to say about this - I work at a big law firm)

Garage List
I faxed in a plea of NG on my last ticket (motorcycle CHP w/ laser) hoping the CHP officer would not show for trial. He did. So, I asked to change my plea to G and get traffic school. My request was granted.

Is there a reason why you prefer to keep extending the ticket?
