Local detailer wants to compound my car for orange peel? What do you think?

So I have a regular professional detailer that does my car once in a while, charges $175 for a wash ,polish, wax. ect.

Well I mentioned to him about the terrible orange peel that the BMW paint comes with and he said for $275 he will compound my car, polish and wax it...afterwards it should "help" a little.

What do you guys think? Anybody use compound to reduce the look of orange peel before and will it work at all? At least help it a bit? Should I shell out the money and give it a shot?

Compound with wetsanding?

It's really not worth it to be doing something to your clear coat when you are still a daily driver.

Only wetsand when the customer is a show-car, and needs the paint at perfection.

With a thin Clear Coat, you are putting your paint at risk, not worth it

No wetsanding, just compounding. Will it reduce it at all? Or will it make no difference?

it will make little difference, if you really want to lose the orange peel effect you need te resort to wetsanding. Before you can wetsand the surface you will need to apply a few more coats of clear coat. Otherwise the clearcoat will become to thin and you will get scratches more easy on the paint.

Your better off investing that money elsewhere

I would be skeptical of how professional your detailer really is if he is claiming to compound out orange peel...

are you serious? adding more clear? there will be overspray all over the whole car..even glass and so on..why would you add clear coat? you want to take it away..just a few microns out of 140-240.. a reg polishing with an orange or white pad and sip only takes off 1-2 microns in general.. so your telling me you would remove every panel you could and respray it with clear then do panels on the car you didn't or couldn't take off like the roof..so basically a few thousand bucks.. then start polishing? how much did you smoke this morning?
