Menzerna question

Doing paint correction on my 06 330i Jet Black with Flex 3401.

For sure using Menzerna SIP.

Not sure about my next step. Options are:

Menzerna PO106FF or PO106FA or PO85RD

Top that with FMJ or Zaino Z5?? Also this last step with black or red LC CCS pad?

Either of the 106's will works both are versatile and pad dependent so you can use them as a final polish or light swirls remover. I like PO85 as a final polish.

I just tried Z5 and really happy with the results. Easy on and off with the ZFX added and able to do multiple coats in one evening.

I have a JB e90 and use SIP/orange, then 106FA/white, then 85rd/black....Im sure you can just use either 106 or 85 as a final step... I would jsut do 106 and go super slow and relieve pressure for jeweling =)

No experience with FMJ or Z5.....however you can use either pad to apply as both pads have no cutting action however red is softer so id go with that

Be sure to throw up pics once you completed the detail =)...

Will definitely get before and after pics up.

I actually was thinking about your three step process you talked about but asked Scheerspeed what he thought as he is pretty much the man as far as I am concerned. He stated this, "The 2nd step with 106FA is not needed. you can go from SIP straight to 85RD, just make sure you work the SIP for a while until it breaks down all the way."

So I am a little confused as to whether to use 85RD or 106FF/FA since he is using a rotary and I will be using the flex.

I'm a firm believer in using a medium polish like 106 after paint correction and then a final polish. It's an extra step but it's worth it.

SIP with orange to PO85RD with anything is a huge step in itself. you might be able to get away with it if you go with a green or white pad and SIP but then you might not have enough cut

I just got the 06 jet black 330i. Only has 30K miles but the previous owners didnt have a clue with how to maintain paint. I bought it knowing I would have to do paint correction.

I plan on this:

Flex 3401
SIP orange
106FF white
PO85RD red (the place I ordered from didnt have LC CCS in blue)

Anyway just in case anyone else was thinking of ordering properautocare.com has some really good specials, in addition, if you sign up for their monthly newsletter you get a 15% off coupon. So I got all this:

32 oz SIP
16 oz PO106FF
32oz PO85RD
Flex 3401
4 LC CCS pads

For $350 shipped free. Which actually means I bought the Flex for $211. Very good deal in my opinion.

Did you check with the site sponsor first? I'm sure George could have hooked you up with a great package deal as well, and you'd be supporting our sponsor.

They are not price matching anyone right now. I emailed them.

You probably have enough advice already, but I'll add that you shouldn't use SIP unless you have to. It's great, but 106FF is enough for light swirls.

On my car, for the 2-3 times/year I polish it, I use 106FF white for most of it, SIP orange followed by 106FF white for whatever 106FF can't get by itself. I like Z5-Z2-Z2 (with ZFX) as a LSP.

I haven't used 85RD yet, but I plan to try it out (with a blue pad) as something to use after 106FF. I have to say, though, 106FF looks to me like it finishes perfectly even with a white pad, it's just that I'm always willing to try something new.

I will have to get some photos up of the paint condition. Need to get a halogen first. Its not in horrible shape but its not just light swirls. I can see buffer trails in the sunlight. The previous owners took horrible car of the paint!! There are two detailers that I hold in high regard (they both use rotarys though) on this forum and one uses SIP then directly to PO85RD and the other this: SIP, 106FF, then RD. The paint on the vehicles that I have seen are actually probably a bit better than my paint. We will see.

I'd probably do 2 test sections if you have time. On one side do the 3 step - sip, 106ff then PO85RD, then do another spot with SIP and just PO85RD. If you're happy with the second area you can save some time by having only 2 steps.

Another good point made earlier is to be sure you need to start the initial cut with SIP. If you can get desired results with just 106 go that route. If that is the case you'll still want to finish with PO85 - amazing finish polish!

i've tried it before. it works okay if you finish down SIP really well. i was using a green pad, and it looked pretty good to me, so i just hopped straight to PO85RD
