RAD Locking Wheel Bolts + Extended Bolts
Having fitted my new Breyton alloys and Eibach spacers, I needed some extended wheel bolts for the rear but I also wanted to fit some better quality locking bolts.
Most aftermarket bolt manufacturers use decorative chrome but very few get it right (or apply enough thickness) so they rust very quickly. RAD are a German wheel bolt/locking bolt manufacturer and are an OEM supplier to Mercedes - their bolts are coated with a corrosion resistant silver coloured coating called Geomet which can withstand 600 hours salt spray testing - that's a lot!! The standard bolts for e9x are size M12 x 1.5, 17mm hex, 60 degree taper, 28mm shaft length (apprx 26mm of thread) - usually this equates to 6.5 turns from full out to full in. I needed a mixed set of sizes for mine (as I was fitting the 5mm spacers to the rear only): Standard size bolts & locking bolts for the front but 5mm longer (33mm shaft length) bolts/locking bolts for the rear. Bought mine from Chris Murray at Alloy Wheels Direct - he had to order them in as they were mixed sizes (3 weeks delivery) - cost for the mixed set of bolts/locking bolts £79 including delivery. Sets in standard sizes are available from Chris at £62 - you can see more here: http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/option/bolt_packs HTH

Bloody hell! That's taking the mick! I bought a standard length set of mcgards (spelling) for £25 though that was a group buy of 10. Had them 4 years now a no corrosion at all.
Obviously locking wheel nuts are a must though. Just looked closer at your bolt box. Same as mine. |
