Can I change the date of an scheduled court hearing?

I have a sort of interesting question. My wife got a speeding ticket couple months back(an asshole gave her a ticket 7 in the morning on Pulaski Bridge where there is no posted speed limit and she was doing 52mph but cop said limit actually is 30mph) So I wanted to postpone the court hearing as late as possible. Can I change the date of an scheduled court hearing either on line or by phone? From what I read in DMV website, I understand that only an attorney can postpone a scheduled court hearing on behalf of their clients by filling out a form. But that just doesn't make any sense, I mean do I really have to have an attorney to that? I am going to call DMV tomorrow and try to postpone it. But other than that what are my options out there? Thank you for the help.

not sure about ny but in nj you are allowed to postpone your court date 2 or 3 times. you must call at least 7 days in advance. the number is on the back of the ticket.

yeaa NJ here no sure with NY, but DMV has nothing to do with court dates so your gonna waste your time there..either plead guilty and pay..or plead not guilty and they will give you the court date, usually like 2 months away. Then a week (7 days) before that date if you give a good reason to postpone they will and you will have another 1-2 months ..college is a good excuse, got classes and test haha!

hellls yea u can postpone! its a good excuse to delay it and if ur lucky, the cop wont show up to the trial. when that happens, ur off the hook! and i do believe that the pulaski is 45mph.. its a highway.. even city street the speed limit is 30mph

always be careful on that bridge because they do have cameras in there, only speed in between bridges

Thanks a lot for the info guys. It turns out that my wife called traffic violation bureau and didn't even give them a specific reason but basically told them that she wants to postpone it for a later date. They did not give her any hard time at all. The court date is now postponed for mid June. Let's see if she can do it again in June for another date.

When you enter NYC it says the speed limit is 30 MPH unless otherwise stated. Cop wasn't an asshole, your wife was just driving too fast.
